	Hi guys, I have a 03 1.6 Vauxhall astra sohc 8v and its using oil. I am running 10w/40 and just went to Halfords and bought 15w/40 part syn like the guide says. Will this thicker oil be ok as other people are suggesting keeping with the 10w/40. If it is burning oil through the valve stems or something will the heavier 15w/40 maybe prevent this? Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Tom

	Autodata says 0w30 or 10w40 semi. I believe many of the GM 4 pots can have breather issues which cause oil to be burnt.

	The 15W/40 is only thicker when cold - the hot viscosity is about the same as 10W/40. it might reduce the amount burnt when starting after it's been stood for a while, but not in general use. Might it be possible to swap the stem seals without taking the head off? I know it's possible on, for example, the Ford CVH.

	Indeedy, they can be on the trusty CVH . I would still check the breathers. Many a BMW seems to give the impression that its turbo is blown until the breathers are checked.
