I have random problem with getting spark to cylinders. It started with first cylinder, it would only ignite with the lead just hovering over the plug, now that's ok and it's happening on the next cylinder. They are all new plugs and leads, twice, dizzy cap seems fine too.
Any sugfestions

I would suspect the dizzy cap. I spent a whole day once with a similar problem on a mk 1 golf and it was the dizzy- I swapped a few caps over but took one off a mates car, and it ran fine!

Check inside the dizzy cap is clean & dry (look for any tell-tale carbon tracks left by "jumping" sparks before you give it a wipe ) New cap or a good clean with white spirit then left to dry... We had an ultra-reliable Datsun that used to act up in damp weather, turned out to be condensation / oil mist inside the cap : Tug each sparkplug lead - have had a few in recent years that look good but have fractured inside the insulation near the end

As others have said give the dizzy cap a thourough clean inside and out, if it doesn't fix it put a new one on. Might be worth chucking a decent quality new rotor arm on there as well.

What brand were the parts that you fitted? Pattern leads and rotor arms have caused me a number of issues in the past.
