Whereabouts in N Wales are you?
I am in Chester and did my Viva ones recently - they can be fun. I used a variety of spring compressors and some juggling with jacks to get it all lined up. The sod was always getting the shocker bolts to line up.
If the Chevette uses the same system as the Viva (which I think it does) then I'm not surprised you're having fun.
Depends where you are and how soon you need it done - I am working stupid hours at the moment. I've not had a day off since Christmas.

We tried spring compressors, jack's, tryed a few diffrent methods with the balljoints, we just wernt getting anywhere with it, such a pain in the to do! I'm in Colwyn Bay, and not in that much of a rush to get it done, but i need to try and get them done before the end of February as thats when I'm going to put it on the road Thanks!

OK - well if you're sorted that's fine. If you get stuck give me a shout. Maybe put a photo up of where you are up to.
I had to get a different set of compressors as my usual ones fouled the lower arm. And two jacks shifting the weight of the car and the position of the lower arm until everything lined up. Fiddly but it worked.

Di you have to take the lower arm off? the bit I'm stuck on really is compressing the spring, and ball joint wont play ball an wont pop off

Ah - I thought you'd got it to bits and were stuck getting the spring / shock / lower arm all back in place.
I had the same issue on mine. On one of them just getting the lower ball joint nut off was a pain since it was rusted solid and just span the whole joint.
So have you got the lower ball joint nut off and the shocker out?
What I did was to replace the ball joint nut part way - just enough so that the ball joint couldn't pop out completely.
Soak it in Plusgas. If it's really stubborn I find Plusgas and then a quick spray with WD40 is a killer combination.
I had the car on loads of axle stands, then with no compressors fitted I put a small jack under the axle assembly and lifted it just enough to begin compressing the spring - ie the spring's pressure was on the lower arm but the lower arm was not supported by the jack. Then a few taps on the joint and it popped out.
Having the nut still in place prevents anything going awol. I then put the jack under the lower arm, raised it to take the pressure, remove the ball joint nut - then very gently lower the arm and release the spring pressure.
I dismantled it without using compressors on the springs - but you can put some in place on the final bit just in case if you want to.
Hope that makes sense. I've probably got some time later in Feb if you get stuck - snag is I usually work weekends.
