Hi.. New here, though some may recognise me from one or two other places (that sounds rather egotistical, now I look at it..)
I seem to have bought an auto Allegro and the box is.. Not so good. Not completely dead, but it flares quite badly between 2nd and 3rd, changes are a little harsh, and worst of all it makes a squeely squwark graunch when pulling away when fully warmed up.
My guess is brake bands, forward clutch pack, no doubt several seals, and god knows what else are to blame, and as I a) don't touch gearbox, and b) don't have the tools to split an A series auto engine and box, I'm pondering.
I've got a reasonable manual 1275 sat as a "one day I'll rebuild it nicely for my GTa", and somewhere else I think I have a pedalbox out a manual Dolomite. The brake servo on the Allegro looks to have the same mountings as a Dolly one, so I'm wondering if I could go manual with the spare lump, using Dolomite pedals and a suitable bulkhead mounted master?
I'd rather just drop another 1275 auto lump in, but never seem to spot one sensibly priced and local enough...
Also, got a very nasty sounding n/s outer CV, does anyone know if they're the same as Metro ones (as I have an unused spare somewhere around..)?
And.. Trying not to sound too stupid, but how do the rear seats work? I mean.. The cushion half.. On mine it spits anyone daft enough to sit there into the footwell, and I can't see how it's meant to not deform, collapse, and generally be unseatish..
