allright guys , just thought i would ask as i really really want to use the corsair as many times this year but i don't have enough confidence in the brakes( already been rebuilt btw) and i want to install a servo to help aid braking power/force
what type of servo do i need? any links i am looking on ebay atm, and how to i hook one up i know i got to have a vacuum hose and i think the line from the master cylinder goes to the servo or something? can someone explain to me in plain english what is the basics of hooking a servo up ?
cheers hope someone can clear this up for me its a 1500 64 corsair (mechanically a mk1 cortina)

Mk 1-2 cortina and Corsair should bolt in but you will need to change the master cylinder too, Remember, servos DO NOT make brakes better, all they do is reduce pedal feel and make the brakes easier to push, I never had a servo on my 300hp V8 cortina, it stopped better than most, Just needed the balls to push hard.

found this via google, look down the thread some easy to follow pics, www.nsra.org.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13193also, search mk1 lotus cortina pics, which is similar to your setup and has the servo. if your sticking with single circuit most remote servos should be suitable. its like a separate master cylinder in the hyd line bewteen your mast cylinder and before any lines split to the differant wheels, using a diaphragm in a sealed housing, when brake is off via the engine vacuum is created at both sides of the diaphragm, when you brake, atmospheric pressure enters one side of the diaphragm assisting in moving the piston in the servo unit. its easier to check how it works by googling images etc. but as said they don't actually make the brakes better just reduce pedal pressure

Are you running standard brakes on it? Ive got m16 calipers on my mk1 Both my mk1 cortina and my mk2 polo don't have a servo and it's fine, servos make it less effort to lock the wheels up (not a good thing) when you don't have ABS in my opinion Decent brakes with decent pads, don't bother with the servo

Decent brakes with decent pads, don't bother with the servo +1 I fitted m16 calipers + new disks on my mk1 and it went from heavy pedal/poor brakes to heavy pedal/lock front wheels and car gets thrown back off MOT rollers If you want light pedal pressure I guess you'll need to get into more work but m16 calipers are the bolt-on way to get better stopping Beware the reinforcing webs on the calipers fouled on the inside of some (not all : of the 5.5J rims I had so you need to check clerances carefully

To reduce pedal pressure without a servo would be reduce the master cylinder size, it will however give you a longer pedal, If you have a 3/4" cylinder you will have a hard pedal without feel, Raldes do 0.75. 0.70 & 0.625.. altering pedal ratio can have the same effect, I know somebody who altered the ratio of his pedal, but cocked it up because the pushrod was binding, wrote the car off,
