Hey guys got an issue I've changed the handbrake cables on my mk3 polo, and stupidly forgot to put the rear beam mounting brackets on! Could this be the reason why the handbrake is still not working as I have adjusted it and has not worked. I will rectify this tomorrow but wanted to be sure that cause these brackets are not holding the rear lines I'm guessing that's why it isn't playing ball? have you adjusted at the drum or at the lever ?
they want to be slacked right off at the lever and
the lil wedges dropped down at the drum to adjust.

the lever not done the drums? i have rebuilt all the rear brakes new shoes cylinders etc.. heres a pic guz do you mean that wedge on the top left which hold that spring going down?  if so how do i adjust that (or adjudst the handbrake from the drum as i have not done that)matey? |

pull the shoes outwards at the top and the wedge should drop down.
its a bit of a faf and you'll feel like you need 3 hands tbh.

will try that guz, i think i heard this can be done through the bolt hole in the drum , really don't want to be taking the drum i just rebuilt with new bearings etc.. of again , so will see if i can get a screwdriver through a hole and push that down a bit cheers gav  |

2 minute job to whip the drum off,
i know which way i'd do it, if you lever too far
it'll drop through and then you have to strip it anyway.

ok so that little wedge has got to be where then? leve; with the shoe plate or below it as atm its obviously way above it as you can see
and i will be pulling the shoes away from he cylinder and then dropping the wedge down?
cheers for the help guz hopefully should be able to do this soon complete newbie at this as you can tell

sorted guys bought 2 new rear beam brackets put them on greased the cable ends, slacked of cables pumped brake tightened the adjuster nut, and hey presto it fully locks just tweaked it all now seems to be all good! now time to do the lines and hoses and then mot timeee!! cheers for help guys was just the brackets in the end mainly then that stopped it working haha |
