I'm in a mental struggle, Know its the wrong time to sell, just need a bit of counseling I think! Saw a decent Vauxhall Viscount going, but as is I have got a 2.9 24 valve Cossie run Mk 4 Cortina with gaz front suspension, poly bushed all round, Cossie seats rs rear spoiler, T9 strengthened box, with 2.8 prop and atlas rear axle curse word loads has been spent on this motor, new clutch, water pump, Period Capri 3.0 S dated alloys, all reading the same date. Just had new oil plugs, filter, KnN air filter, swirl pot etc.. Now can someone tell me to smell the coffee and forget the Viscount please? Still has a few niggles, clutch cable needs adjusting, water temp sensor is still temperamental, little things like that paint job isnt brilliant, but is 90% rust free, starts on the button even after a month under cover. So why do I need to get a Viscount?? I need a talking too Oh the Viscount here it is www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230902055259?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649Someone talk some sense into me please!!

It depends on what you like really?
For me, it is more about the build and tinkering than it is the finished product, if a car is done or nearly there, I have a nasty habit of selling up and getting something much worse!

if the thought is in your head to sell the tina, sell it. If you feel you've done all you want to do then move on and sort the vic out, regret is terrible thing!

I know where your coming from belive me. Having sold a very tidy mk1 MR2 only to replace it with a very rotern 2.8capri, the hours of work and sense of achivent once finished soon removed any regrets for selling the MR2

Think the Cortina is more "popular cool" as in people know what it is and relate where as the Viscount is more "niche" if you get what I mean.

Viscount is very cool, but the broken window would put me off. Parts for these are like hens teeth/poor quality wobbly children's play pony poop and any other way of saying stupidly rare that you care to mention. Put your money intpo refining the cortina

Both cars are brick shaped and very nice, but why swop a finished brick for a project brick? Unless you don't have a job and need something to do I suppose?

For me this hobby is more about driving something than restoring it, although if a car only requires gentle recommissioning I'd happily take it as a project, but only if I knew what kind of driving pleasure it would give me once done. For example I once had a fairly well sorted 24v Cosworth mk3 2000E Cortina. It was fast, cornered and stopped well plus turned heads wherever it went. Perfect!
The Viscount is cool but nowhere near as practical in my opinion, even I'd you upgraded the mechanicals with modern bits.
If it was me I'd make a list of all the things I wanted to sort on the cortina and do that. It looks like you've got well over £2k to spare so put it into the Cortina!

I'd get the Viscount, if you really want it - it's not a good thing to get emotionally attached to a certain car. I prefer the look of the Cortina tbh and wouldn't go near the Viscount, Cortina looks so much better.
