Thought I'd post some details up of the car which me and a few friends used last year to take part in the Ramshackle Valencia Rally for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Had an absolutely fantastic time, both getting the car ready and on the rally itself. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves... We started out with a blue 1989 VW Passat CL. This is how it looked after it's first coat of paint (Masonry Paint, Ivory, applied with a brush, natch)... Next, we did this... And then started this... Can you guess what it is yet? Taking shape.... Now, for some 'modification' to make it functional... Can you see what's mounted on the boot here? That's right.... So, off we set on our 3,500 mile round trip to Valencia. We spent a long week-end with some like-minded nutters racing to Valencia, stayed for La Tomatina and then hammered home in 36 hours. Suffice to say, the car didn't skip a beat despite the abuse we gave it. Here are some gratuitous shots from the trip... And on the way home (streamlined and with cabin-ventilation)...

Aha! I was on this rally, it was my first and absolutely effing brilliant!
loved the passat, looked rather rear end heavy!
We had the crappy blue Multipla cobbled together at the last minute.

Ah, cool. You guys flew back, didn't you? We made the awful decision to drive back straight from La Tomatina (without showering) Took us about 36 hours with a big fook off hole in the roof. Driving through the alps in the middle of the night with candles for headlamps was eventful. Had a brilliant time - we're looking to do something again in 2014, perhaps on some small capacity bikes :-)

The ferry ended up going to Jersey, Guernsey to Poole. got home to Somerset in early hours on the Friday. was epic. 3100 miles in all in a car that hadn't turned a wheel since December 2010.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Sounds like you brought some brilliant stories back with you! That's what it's all about. Glad you got home safely anyway. We missed our ferry because we got searched by the officials before we boarded the ferry - so we didn't get back to the midlands until middle of the night. I'd do it all again tomorrow though
