Hi, I have a '83 Mini 1000 I am restoring I am trying to disassemble the front subframe and I am having trouble with the rubber cones. How would I go about taking them out without the tool? I have already tried with the tool and it stripped the thread. If any of you can help it would be much appreciated.

You can take the bolt out of the upper suspension arm then take the arm then the trumpet and then the cone. You may have to tap it free as it will have the trumpet compressing it it. Done this on an old subframe which i had the same problem of stripped thread. You can do it both with the subframe on or off the car

just watch the amount of force the trumpet is under as they can go with a bit of a bang when trying to remove them

Just one other thing of note - the thread in the rubber donuts changed at some point - not sure when. Earlier cars have UNF and Later UNC (think that's the right way around). I have two fittings for my SP tool - this might be why you've had problems with the thread.
