Following a very sober New Years Eve, I decided that a trip to the New Years Day meet at Brooklands seemed to be a civilised place to start the New Year. We're normally up North for NY so this was a 1st time for this event.
The forecast by some miracle was for sunshine, and with only a 10 mile trip to get there it seemed too good to be true.
I've only started going to Brooklands events last year and I now find them pretty special. They're even good for the family with a good cafe, a soft play area and plenty of outdoor space for the little one to explore. Being fairly local helps but I love the feel of the place. You almost get the same feel as from the Goodwood Revival, a real sense of history. In fact, it is my visits to Brooklands that has sparked more of an interest in vintage stuff, rather than post war cars that I have naturally liked for years. The museum itself is worthy of a trip on its own, and when they host an event, it becomes a bit of a bargain for the same standard admission (£10).
I wasn't sure how big a turn out it would have, but travelling down the A3 and passing a number of vintage cars en route I started to sense it was going to be good.
With the sun out I kicked myself for not going down in the Triumph but it still needs me to change the water pump seal so I became a happy spectator rather than part of the show.
A brilliant start to a retro flavoured 2013.
Anyway, here are a few pics. Many of my photos didn't work out because of the bright sunshine but I hope there are still some here to enjoy.
I couldn't help but go weak at the knees over this Lancia Aurelia. Absolutely gorgeous but also clearly a racing tool. Even the modern buckets seem to work.
It's pretty little sister wasn't bad either

The 2nd old MG dashboard that jumped out at me, I seemed to suddenly notice them that day
One of my favourites of the day. A recently restored 1938 Ford Prefect in the same family from new. Hand painted at one stage and a few periods laid up but now in regular use and looking like new. Sorry I didn't capture better pics but I think this one is romantic enough
A later Ford ancester
I presume this C type was a replica but I wouldn't know and always a pleasure to see either way. I like the spare plugs!

Pure class. Parked next to some more modern Mercs, they were completely overshadowed by this quality

A Minor there was heavily staged, including a Trailer, all decked out with plenty of period props, but that day, it seemed charming rather than contrived

Nice to see a side exit on an E type, looks pretty purposeful

The craziest thing there I reckon. A CX GTi convertible. What are the odds that suffers a little scuttle shake?

and the owner seemed to have gone to a lot of trouble to have Morris on the rocker covers

Although there was some lovely stuff on display, my car of the show was this 95 Estate. Is it the same one we have on here as a Readers Ride?
The colour, the wheels, the stance. That is how to wear a roof rack too, presume it is an original fitment? It really shows up the 80's and 90's cars I often see with an old school roof rack fitted carrying some scene tat, which are trying so hard....
That car would be a lifer for me, lovely
