I don't think you can do it mate as your springs are pigtailed.
Either way do not do it on the car, they will be under compression and you will have a very nasty accident

Whilst some may claim it is safe (an in some instances it probably is not too dangerous (I.E when the spring is not compressed at all) I would still take the springs off the car in all honesty if you are chopping them:).

Cutting springs on a car is fine done it many times you just have to under stand were the force will push so not to trap.the cutting.disc etc but if your worried ie starting a thread on it then remove them

Double pig tailed, and a right horrible job to remove, I made a compressor to remove them, as the normal type compressor I had would not go around the spring. Cutting double pigtails is nigh on impossible as they get bigger towards the centre so if you cut them the spring wont fit in the cup, MOT fail and potentially dangerous if the spring slips off the cup. Buy aftermarket ones, much much safer,

Please don't cut pig tailed springs they will not seat properly afterwards and could be potentially dangerous.

It's not cutting them on or off the car that is the issue, it's doing under load that is the potentialy dangerous bit
As for ride quality, ANY lowering spring WILL stiffen teh ride. This is obvious as the suspension cannot travel as far before things start bottoming out!
I've done it both ways, My old W201 190E had proper lowering springs and my current W124 300CE has had 2 coils removed all round. Both had low profile tyres (45's on 17's and 40's on 18's) and tbh I'd say the 300CE still rides better.
However, if your car has double pigtailed springs (I'm unfarmiliar with BMW's) then all the above is pointless as you cannot re-seat them after chopping.
If there's nothing listed for your application, try looking at other applications as you'll probably find something similar somewhere. eg, IIRC putting Corsa rear springs in to lower Astra/Cavaliers is not unusual. (However this may be factually incorrect!)

Iam with phillipm Coustom springs and some blisten dampers B6 or B8 should do the job very nicely. For the spirings i think spax do an ok set for around 130 and the damper dependent on type around 400 don't cut the springs.!!!!!!!!! Nice E28 btw if you want to sell or swap it let me know. Cheers
