The indicators have stopped working on my mk2 escort. At first I thought it was a bad earth at the lights but I've double checked that and it seems to be ok. Yesterday I thought it might be the stalk as my main beam and headlight flash wasn't working but I had a look again tonite and that's working now, so now I'm thinking that the relay might be at fault, when I push the hazard switch just the front indicators flash all be it not very bright the rear lights also flicker in time with the front indicators. I really want this sorted as I was really hoping to take it for an MOT on Saturday morning.

If the fronts are working at all then it's unlikely to be the relay that has failed, if they go you tend to get nothing at all. If both sides are doing the same I'd take a look at the flasher unit. I had a similar issue and after checking all the wiring etc I finally fixed it by replacing the popple type flasher unit with a digital one. Works a treat now.

usually bad earths on fords, also try removing the indicator bulbs one at a time and trying again, might be one pulling down to earth. I've seen the connectors at the lamps fail, wiring troubles, it could be pretty much any of those but its a very basic system to fix.

All sorted now, it was a bad earth at the drivers side rear light and the earth was shorting out on the rear indicator bulb on the rear passengers side
