Can anyone advise if it can/can't be done as I need a spare wheel for my trailer, but cant afford £100 for a wheel and tyre that don't match my existing ones.
I've got my eye on a couple of sets on ebay but either they are too big diameter (to fit Land Rovers) or wrong hub fitting.
The hub is Land Rover 5x165mm with huge centre bore, but existing two wheels are 7x14" weller 8 spokes.
Been looking for ages, but this size/fitting seem to be poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo or whatever the current phrase is!

Discovery steel spoked wheels are peanuts so why not change the ones on the trailer for a pair of those and get a matching spare at the same time ? Accepted they will be 16" but doubt it'd make much difference to the ride height of a trailer.

Steel wheels, when stamped have a thickened area around the nut seat so its extra strong in that area, if you redrill them you wont have that thickened area to support the nuts and the land for the taper so the nuts are unlikely to stay tight, which, obviously will not be safe, I had a friend who lost a twin wheel set off a boat trailer on a motorway, put 3 people in hospital, and wrote off 4 cars, and cost him 6 points and £1000, he had bought the trailer 20 mins earlier.

Thanks guys, Good point about the extra thickness by the holes. Haven't looked that closely at the ones I have, but it makes sense.
I've looked at Disco/S1/S2/S3 wheels, but the tyres are a lot taller than the 185/70/14 I have now.
Also I have collected a few spare tyres that will go on my existing wheels. They come from Transits and the like, so are cheap and can carry a fair weight (about 1200kg per pair). Load rating 102/104.
Any idea of the load rating of the Disco road tyres?
