So I have this Volvo that I need taking about 20 miles down the road to a guy I knows unit so he can maybe do some work on it.. but I no longer have insurance on it. It has MOT and tax.. suggestions?
Nobody I know has a policy that allows them to drive vehicles they don't own 3rd party or whatever.. I thought about borrowing an A frame or something and towing it? I could perhaps get a trailer but I'm not sure if the little van would be strong enough to pull it along..
Cheers

Use temp insurance and gets a days cover and drive it. The driving other cars clause on peoples insurance normally requires that the car has a policy in force on it. Also you cannot legally tow it on the road with no insurance. The only legal way to move a car that has no insurance is to have all 4 wheels off the ground, so truck or trailer.

Thanks for the advice and the offer cheers!
Unfortunately I'm in Chester, North West...
I guess if someone could lend a hand that would be awesome! If not then temporary cover will probably be the best bet. Any suggestions as to who to contact for this? I don't seem to have much luck with insurance..
Thanks
Rob

Thanks Rob Hi Rob - I've used Aviva for one day insurance when I've needed to move similar projects. Last time was £18 which was pretty good. The alternative is to hire a transporter or a trailer. Chester Towbars on Sealand do trailers. The last time I hired a transporter it was less than £100 for the day for a long distance collection of a none-runner.

A post near the top menctions that you can't tow a vehicle without there being insurance on it.
Now when I spoke to Sussex police, they informed me that towing with a solid bar makes the vehicle behind into a trailer. Irrespective if you're using an a frame or a dolly etc. You have to how ever make sure your license allows you to tow that specific weight
Towing with a rope therefore means you need insurance as its not deemed a solid fixture..

Optima - you're right, vehicles these days need to be insured if they are taxed. If they aren't, you'll receive a letter through the post.

You can't tow it on a bar as a trailer because it will be to heavy and need a braking system, you can recover it if its broken down, but not transport it by towing it.

Also when towing with a bar someone needs to be in the car to steer. I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to be in a trailer whilst its being towed.

Have a look on ebay \ local paper.
Just get it moved on a recovery truck, probably going to cost you £40-£50

I think I will just do the day insurance thing.. but I will cover all options for sure.
I'm still waiting on the logbook from the curse word that sold it to me.. how long do these things usually take? I will need that to SORN it?

SORNing it means you cannot use it on the road (unless you are taking it for a pre booked MOT)

If the car is drivable with tax and mot then take a insurance policy out with say, Tescos, and as long as you cancel within 14 days you won't get charged.
I done this a couple of years ago when buying a car and wasn't charged.

Suspended tow will get round that. HOWEVER recovery companies are insured to do that anyway, so best check ....
