Been reading from exhaust people that the bmw 520i rear exhaust box is restrictive and as I know heavy. Considering deleting rear box and either fitting cherry bomb or straight pipe giving me options for bolt in baffles Doing this after getting mot Anyone took out rear box completely and does or did it affect general running etc of engine/ noise etc.

It'll really depend on the car - some cars can lose the rear box and not sound all that loud, whereas some will be undriveably noisy. If the box is restrictive, this suggests that it's restrictive for a reason - either to limit power a bit to help sell the 525 or whatever, or more likely to reduce the noise. BMW aren't stupid!
Taking the box off and replacing it with a cherrybomb (or a larger and better silencing straight through type box) will remove pretty much all the flow restriction. It's very unlikely to make the car run poorly, but also unlikely to make it a lot faster.
If the box is removable, just take it off altogether and see if the car goes any better.
