Hhhmm. Your front bumper, his rear door. Exactly my first thoughts. he's response was I cut him up and he sped away This makes no sense. You imply that his version of events is that you "cut him up" thereby damaging his rear door with your front bumper? Not pointing the finger or anything but it doesn't make any sense. You sure we have all of the information?

You're only required to stop and exchange details or report to police if (in the absence of injury damage to a third party/certain animals) there is damage to your car, their car etc. You say there is no damge to your car and I'm sure you saw none on his, so I would just leave it. If you tell your ins co they will record it and then you'll have to declare it every time you apply for insurance.

Report it to the police, My lad killed his clio on a greasy roundabout, clipped a kerb, spun, both bumpers off, and bent 2 wheels, did no damage to anything else, slung the plastic in the back and drove home, 3 months later he landed 6 points and £500 fine for leaving the scene, and not reporting the accident. There's more to that story than he told you, there is no legal requirement to report an accident to the Police unless there are injuries, you've damaged someone elses property or you are a hazard to other road users. You can't be prosecuted for 'leaving the scene without exchanging details' when no-one else is involved, if there's no-one else to exchange details with.

Pretty sure you can be prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it.

You don't have to report an accident, therefore you can't be prosecuted for not doing something that isnt a legal requirement.

Memerise his number plate then hunt him down if you were travelling a regular journey, even try and follow him to his home and then make your own compensation

Wonder if the laws a touch different over here on that front then, pretty sure I recall a mate getting done for it during our youth....

"leaving the scene of an accident" is an offence, failure to report it is not. If an accident happens in front of you, you wait, drive round it and off to work, you can be prosecuted.

Its things like this that make me want to get a Dash Cam more and more. Even when the damage makes it look like your at fault, you can't beat some video footage to fight your corner. It also makes getting number plate details less "stressful".

Youtube "Russian dash cam" to see some corkers of bumps. Hit and runs are so common place that driving with a dash cam is a necessity.
