I have just removed the dash from my mk3 Escort due to it being cracked, and I want to repair it myself. As these go, it's not in horrendous condition, but as you can see, it still aint pretty. I'm basically wondering what filler(/sealer?) people have used to fill in and repair the cracks, and what the recommended methods are. I have read up a little, and it seems that drilling a hole at both ends of the crack seems a given, but what to fill it with is where I begin to wonder. The cheaper the better! Thanks, Liam.

I'd be curious about this too as the dash on my Maestro has done much the same thing, only slightly worse.

One of the not so desirable side-effects of 80's motoring, eh!
Hopefully somone in the know will be along to advise.

You can get a nice piece of carpet to go over them in Aus!

Dash topper!
Something like that (beach towel) may be of use once repaired. As well as that anti-U.V clear film you can have fitted to glass lol.

Think I'm gonna Dremmel a 'V' into the cracks, through the foam, scuff it up and take down any ridges with 80 grit and then fill with either an epoxy or polyurethane filler. I am sick of reading guides. IMO this is one of the better examples though.

The way we did it on my grandmothers E28 5 series was to drill a hole at each end of the crack and dremel the crack into a v. Then filled it with bumper repair putty and used a pin to emulate the texture. Helped that to dry with a heat gun and then sprayed the whole of the dash top with a matt black aerosol can. That repair lasted at least 2 years at which point the car was sold on and it still looked good.
