Hi all, I need some advice please. My brother has a 2001 mondeo tdi estate that has packed up. Apparently it's the fuel pump ecu and he has been quoted £400 plus parts by a company in droitwich to fix. He has decided to get rid of the car and buy himself a mid to late 90's barge, something like a seven series, xj or s class (I'll be scanning the ads on here shortly). However I need to help him get the best price I can for the mondeo. It obviously won't drive but the AA got is started and its parked at work in Redditch. It's got 9months MOT and in decent nick.
So what do you think the scrap man would give me? Or would I be likely to sell it for more on the dreaded bay for more money?j
Any advice appreciated. If I new how to insert images on my iPad I would insert an image of the kind of 7 series he wants, but think mids to late 90's with a min of a V8 and you get the picture.
Cheers Mull

Unless you know a scrap man or can take it yourself, you're not going to get a good price for scrap.
Best thing you can do is break it for parts if he's not going to fix it.
By breaking it, you'll get more than you originally would have selling it, even in good nick.
Then whatevers left on the car scrap it.
If you don't have time, money or inclination to break it, whack it on ebay for spares or repairs and someone will buy it, either someone who wants to put it back on the road or a breaker, you wont get as much as breaking it, but its hassle free.

Are you sure the ECU has failled?? If it ran at all its unlikely to have packed up, thats usually what they say when they can't come up with a better idea.....

I don't know how much you need back out of the car but I turned a scrap 1999 Focus into £250ish Took off the Cat, Battery and anything that would ebay which was: Locking wheel nuts Unused space saver Radio and related manual and code card Towed the car to our local Metal Recyclers (Andersons in Ripon). I've got to state here that they are very very helpful here and weighed it in minus wheels (Alloys.. see where we going?). Took the tyres of the alloys. Back down to Andersons with the Cat', Battery and tyre less alloys. eBayed the other removed bits on a free listing weekend. Roberts your Dads brother

Our local scrap man will come round and collect anything that has alloys and a cat on it and give you 250 quid, I doubt you'll get any more than that unless you break it yourself.

Thanks all think I will try the banger racers. I went through all the options with him and truthfully think he CBA to do anything else with it. Looks like I'm off car hunting with him next week.

Are the banger boys going to want a TDi? guess they'll rip it out and stuck a Ztec in on a carb easy enough.
I would stuff it up on ebay myself, lots of good pic's and details of the problem, 99p no reserve on a 10 day listing starting on a Thursday evening (so there are 2 weekends people can get out and view and finishes on a Sunday evening). The local banger boys will be hunting ebay for mondoes and'll spot it anyway, and for someone wanting to fix it, could be a cheap motor.
