I stripped all the seats and remiaining carpet out of the Oxford last night and stuck it my mum's loft this morning for safe keeping. Looks like I've got my work cut out! I dare say better ones have been raced..... The remainder is actually pretty good and the sills are solid as I did them when it was last off the road a few years ago. I'm devising all kinds of suspension schemes at the moment including air bags on the front and a four bar/coil over set up on the back so I can get it proper low

Looks like you got a weld-a-thon on your hands! I know that feeling - wishing you'd never looked and remained in blissful ignorance! ;D It'll be worth it!

Doesn't look too bad to do. Does anyone make replacement floorpans for them or are you just going for some sheet steel? Got a leaky windscreen?

Yeah the windscreen is leaky and I'm pretty sure water is making its way in elsewhere too. The screens will come out to repair that properly but its not a job I can do (outside at home...) so that will wait until a bit later. I will be incorporating big drain holes The puddle on the drivers side is actually on solid metal I put in there a few years ago but most of that will come out too. You can buy floor pan sections but they're just bent bits of sheet (ie they don't replicate the origianl pressings) so I'll be better off making my own to suit. The outrigger section (under that big hole) will also need doing and I'm expecting to have to make bits of the main "chassis rail" too. I'm going the whole hog and cutting it all right out though rather than trying to patch around the solid bits which from experience takes longer to do and doesn't last as long.

I chop the lot out too. I find it's easier that was as well. Maybe the scuttle panel has rusted through up behind the dash which is causing the leak? Although my experience with the old BMC cars I've owned is that they generally have leaky screen seals. I don't think I had one A35 that didn't leak a bit.

That looks basically the same as mine. Lots of grot in the front footwells. Are you going to replace the outriggers with those triangle things that replace the originals?

Yep, it had already got triangle plates in when I first got it. The remains of the rotten originals were left in place though to speed up the deterioration of any new metal though I have seen cars with no outrigger replaced at all. They are a bit over-engineered really. An alernative would be to use some box section to replicate the genral form of the original pieces.

Mines been plated over the top of the original outriggers to make a triangle and same as yours, the originals are still there and theyve rotted out everything. Looks pretty solid until you start poking and find the holes and fibreglass. I guess the best thing is to whizz the whole lot off with a grinder and do it properly! My screens got to come out too to do a minor repair on the scuttle. Havent got the bottle to touch it though without a spare windscreen in my garage.

Yep its a clean old car, thats why i got it. Its had a new set of steel front wings fitted at some time but that looks like it, but ive got to start bare metaling it soon so we will see what its hidding. Ive worked on,owned and raced enough rusty Farinas in my time so its nice to have a rust free one.

The Sun-Tor has its original outriggers but there are a couple of patches on them. Pid, you're one sounds ripe for the psuedo period saloon car racer I'd love to build . Like the idea of foot coolers MrS. Yep, seen the Classics thingy '850 and sent them a letter
