[quote author=damien4884 board=othrmod thread=139253 Anyone know of any coins around the same size as a modern 2p that I could make into a ring for the mrs that won't leave her with black marks (she never listens!!)[/quote]
2p 25.90mm old 5p 23.59mm old 10p 28.50mm
thats the diameter of those, depending if it needs to be smaller or larger you might get away with using one of those
great replacement wedding band!

Well, the first draft of the Steampunk hat is done. Opinions please? ?? I have tried not to overdo it, as that is quite easy. Electro Mechanical theme. Biggest problem is that all my rolls of solder wire are resin core so no acid in there, and despite cleaning and sanding the copper plate which came out of an old PC power adaptor, no adhesion.... so onto the hot glue gun and some contact adhesive and old fashioned wire binding. Wrapped up with a note asking forgiveness in case she totally hates it. Also included spare keys to the shed, garage and the alarm codes, so that she can get in there to make it right. Ended up not doing any pics of the make up, but sure you can figure it out. PS: Bugga !!! Just realized the top bits are cammo'd by the grass behind the hat. Too bad, its wrapped up now, so no re-photographing.

My ring has fallen foul of the sander at work and now has a lovely flat spot on it caused by a whizz from a 100 grit pad might make it a feature!

At last a thread I can contribute to! I've just finished this for my boy for Christmas. Quick spec - 12v agm battery, bosch wiper motor driving homemade differential via bicycle chain and sprockets, forward and reverse relays selected by indicator stalk, double foot pedals to make it go.

+1 that tractor is awesome. heres the ammo box ive put a pc inside.. christmas pressie for my 9 yr old army and gun obsessed boy. its his first pc so its a pretty old but good machine inside. running xp (nice easy os) upgradable but at his age this will do. was annoyed though as orginal motherboard died hence why the cd drive sticks out... the old motherboard was smaller and it sat in flush. hey ho. and a keyboard to match.. did a mouse too but forgot to take pics.

I love those coin rings, but how do you keep the text on the outside?

I love those coin rings, but how do you keep the text on the outside? Different techniques. Search coin rings on Youtube. Text on outside starts with hole through the middle and then " flipping " the ring to get face side facing outward. Hope that helps.

It's a bit late, but I only managed to present these the their recipients over new years so didn't really want to post them up in case they got seen! But as I posted earlier I decide to make some staffs for some mates, and here is the finished product: close up of the tops: They certainly took a bit more work than I thought they might, but I'm pleased with how they came out. More importanly my mates loved them too so it's all good! I can post up more details of how I made them if folks would like? but this is a car forum afterall so might not be the place! James

Well, I should have known...... Made and gave Nicola the Steampunk hat, then she started to grumble about a hat stand to set it on. Today I made an effort and sorted out some wood and ended up with 3 pieces of Tulip wood. Turned a Base. Head and then the Stem and put them together. Put is out in the lounge with the Tophat on, then waited to see what the boss thought..... Success. Earlier on this morning I also made up some brooches for her. Happy to say they were what seems to be a success as well.

Rian,
You're just as good with the intricate/delicate stuff as you are with the big/heavy stuff!

Thanks Grizz, from a chap of your talents I take that as quite the compliment! I really enjoyed doing it as it plays to many of my interests, so I may make some more at some point just for fun.
