Here is my Superminx Estate...had a fully customised saloon back in the 80s, so, when I recently decided to get back into the custom scene, I decided on a Rootes car. Had to be an estate as I have a large, and hairy dog that goes everywhere with me! The car is pretty solid, apart from the arches, which are more plastic than metal and the engine, which is on it's second round of the clock, is a blue smoker! The colour can only be described as Phlegm-Green.....not pretty!!!! I mean to get the 1725 engine rebuilt...plenty big enough for cruising...and I have already ordered up repair panels for the arches!

That looks super! I'd definitely be keeping that colour as shades like that are part of what makes messing about with old cars more interesting.

Don't know much about these cars but looks brilliant, as does your dog. The colour is Ace PS I'm guessing that tailgate folds down the-way? American style

Split tailgate, window goes up, tailgate goes down. That one looks cleaner than the ones I've seen here in Aus!

Nice, i had a 63 Sceptre back in the 80s, great fun to drive and this will be good with the 1725 motor. Liking the yellow spotlamp especially. A prime candidate for the fake woody treatment!

This is clearly the best colour for a 1960s Rootes estate car, it would be a crime to change it!
I don't want to sound like Dr.Predictable over here, but this will look fantastic with some subtle detailing and a little drop in ride height, I look forward to seeing how it progresses.

My business is Airbrushing and Custom Paintwork, so, eventually, the Estate will be getting a few custom licks of paint. Will probably run it, as it is, to start with just, to see how she runs mechanically...been laid up for the past 8 years! I mean to do a few subtle custom mods, a set of wheels and a wild paintjob.........as long as it isn't that green! Here's a photo of my old Saloon, back in the 80s, at the Ayr Custom Rally.....Different dog, though!

Colour is great (dog looks awesome too), but given your trade it'd be a missed opportunity not to do something with it paint- wise. Something with at least a nod to it's original colour though I reckons.

A friend took the Zenith carb off to clean it out and fit new gaskets, and found the diaphragm was burst. The varnish-like fuel was cleaned out of all the nooks and crannies, new diaphragm and gaskets fitted and it was nailed back on to the manifold. New plugs, points, condenser and dizzy cap fitted and the oil drained and new classic oil and a new filter fitted. Also drained the water out the radiator, fitted new hoses, as the old ones were perished and crispy, and refilled the system with water and antifreeze! Of course, had to give it a wee road test around the Industrial Estate........Smokescreen out the funnel has all but disappeared!
Only damage was as I was feeling the top hose to see if it was heating up, my thumb and the HUGE cooling fan made contact!!!!! Didn't swear....didn't cry...but do have a rather bruised thumbnail!
Just got flexi brake pipes to replace and fit a set of wheels with legal tyres, so I can try her with an MOT!

Yep your old Saloon looks VERY '80s... Glad to hear this ones getting more mobile. I'm Looking forward to some two-tone ideas with some of the old colour before you go all-out for something new. Old colours can be more interesting for the fact no-one would think of using them today, even if it only becomes an accent/contrast to another colour. The slab-like sides & rear-fins that don't lead anywhere would suit some '50's American style colour contrasts & chrome striping.

The replacement of the flexi brake pipes has not gone to plan! The brake pipes, we found, were rather rusty, so they will need replaced, and the brake pads are a tad worn, so new ones are on order! Mind you, while my mate was getting grubby and oily, I was playing around with some paint and a brush! Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The rebuild on this old barge has slowed to a snails pace, basically waiting on Alpine West Midlands, in Redditch, to send me repair panels.
Ordered them early in October 2012, and was told there would be an 8 week wait for them. Paid for the panels and some other parts. The parts were sent right away and I waited for the panels. Xmas interfered with the waiting plus a doze of Manflu laid me low for most of January.
No sign of my panels, so I e-mailed the company and recieved a very vague reply to say they would look into it...didn't hear any more. E-mailed a few times, and got more vague replies to say they had the panels...again no sign of panels or an explanation. By now, we were well into March, and still no panels and the company don't even have the decency to reply to my last E-mail. My mate phoned them and was told the panels were at their supplier, and she would look into it and phone him back.....she never did.
After Easter, I am asking for my money back...after all, it has almost been 6 months!
Very disappointed in Alpine West Midlands!!!!!

Sorry to hear about the problem with getting new panels, suffice to say i'll put them in my "blacklist" when I'm looking for replacement parts/panels, that sounds like a trading standards issue, hopefully when it's solved you'll be able to source them easily elsewhere.
