i'm also well into my landrovers and like to use them off road as nature intended.. but i also think that series one is absolutely brilliant... completely what you don't expext a landrover to be.. that's what makes it so good.. it's much easier to lift one than to do that..

ok ok I apericiate the work that is in it but just cant see the point in it. I love the Roit theme of the other one though is it a mitsi? To understand the point in it, maybe best to read through this thread...it goes into the details of how it came about and why it was built. retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=125964My take...it's an even bigger shame to have all these thousands and thousands of capable 4x4's in the world yet only about 1% get properly used and still people get hung up on the one that embraces not being used as a 4x4 like it's some kind of crime. Yep, the other one is a Mitsubishi Delica that I've gradually evolved on a mega tight budget. That one gets used daily and I'll put money on it being given more abuse than most 4x4's out there. If there was ever a true workhorse.....

ok ok I apericiate the work that is in it but just cant see the point in it. Your right, absolutely pointless, but isnt that what most of our cars can be seen as? The gas guzzling V8s, the cars so slammed your teeth rattle, the banded steels, the cars which are of absolutely no use in the everyday normal world. These cars are all "pointless", but also are so much fun and different from the norm, that they are uber cool and loved by 'most' of us here on Retro Rides Long live pointless vehicles ;D

I will just go back to lurking in the shadows and not talking!!! Please don't make us out to be the ones that are being negative when you started a thread with a comment about how one of the most popular cars on the site made you mad! Nobody wants people to feel alienated or that they should 'go back to lurking', but I guess it goes to show why we try and avoid negativity on the forum. You started the thread with it and look what happened. If you wanted a thread about lifted Landies then perhaps starting with a few pictures of what you liked rather than telling us what you didn't would've been much better. Your first post (and your last - 'ffs') don't show any sign of being light hearted. I suggest you make the effort to fit in rather than claim we're not letting it happen.

I have the DodgeRover, 1978 2 door Range Rover classic fitted with a Perkins 6.247 (thats about 4.0l in new money) from a Dodge 50 walk through. Up and running and shouldn't need much for a MOT although its not been on the road since 2005 due to the cost of fuel, currently planning on a turbo conversion when I can get my in gear and afford some diesel on a regular basis for it. Does about 24/26 mpg or a bit more on a run, cruises at motorway speeds with loads in reserve (thats for all those who say Perkins engines are slow). Don't know too much about its history, it came from a fairground up in Leeds in the mid 90's where it had obviously worked hard for its living, the Dodge the engine came from had been a security carrier (maybe cash in transit?) and had to be cut up rather than sold at the end of its life. Looking for a set of Disco steels for it and an Aussie style roo bar.

Series 3 1-ton chassis number 1. Factory "jacked up" Land Rover- dropped shackles with heavy duty, taller springs, 900x16 tyres on wide steels, heavy duty diffs and lower than standard transfer box and steering box ratios. That would be the Land Rover shaped one parked next to the Chelsea tractor on steroids in case you hadn't realised Anorak, yes I am ;D but I used to have one, 2a chassis number 146 (of 170- odd), re- engined with a Nissan straight 6 dizzle. Pretty cool first car I thought... Oh, and have a picture of one of my others sitting in a field looking pretty. Sorry if it's not 10ft tall and on wheels wider than the moon enough for you... I must admit I like my Land Rovers to be Land Rover sized and shaped (Bruce's being the exception to that rule, I love it).
