Hello all. Purchased a black '83 RS1600i Custom last weekend. I was made redundant three weeks ago, and decided I could no longer jutsify/be ar$ed to fund my Volvo 360 Turbo project, so I sold it all off in favour of something nice and rare than I can tinker with. Always wanted one of these rare beauties, and this pretty original example came up for I like to think decent money. My 360 broke for very decent money (and I'm not finished yet), so it affords me enough for a fun motor still, and pays off a few bills. Talk about win win. Collected it from Cardiff last Saturday, which was the final jaunt in me driving 1000 miles in my TDCi Mondeo (which now has possible EGR and DMF issues!). I got in 45/50 minutes kip in that time. Sleep is for the weak! Plans are to tidy it up, fit amber indicators for the original look, renew bushes, master cylinder etc so it's safe, reliable and fun to drive, shine up and enjoy. 8) No decent pics yet, as you may notice. Didn't realise how low the back of the Mondeo was sitting until I glanced over at the services. I blame the MR2 body kit Just started on it today, got the whole interior out to give it a good clean, and to assess the condition of the floorpans, inner arches etc. All good, thankfully! I will be repainting the floor in etch primer and then body colour to keep it tidy, will wet vac the seats etc and carpet before I refit them, and give the dash a damn good clean. The removal process was slow going in places. Working out which way to prise the brittle, impossible to find plastic components. It's a good condition car, but has fag ash in little crevices etc and just general grime on the steering wheel, door handles etc. So it will be good to get rid of all that. Whilst out, I intend to have the bolster wear on my drivers seat repaired by having another panel sewn in. The material is impossible to find, but I have a plan. Canabilise another rear seat. The plain section in the middle of the upright should be just the job I reckon, then hopefully it won't cost much to have the seat repaired with it. After that, I will be concentrating on reneweing all of the bushes and braking components. I am just busy collecting parts for that atm, and finding out what's what with regard to buying the correct stuff. If anybody has any mk3 parts they want to part with, then let me know please! Off the top of my head, I need a N/S kick plate trim, C pillar covers for opening quarters, two interior lights, and amber indicators. With lots more to come no doubt. I will keep this thread up to date, as much for me and the car than anything else.

Liking that, a lot. I do love the 1600i, and they are a definite investment now. I'd love one to share the garage with my mk 2 That might be a tough one to get around the wife though Looks like you've found yourself a good example though. Good work.

I may be shot for saying this, but I've always had a bigger love for Erica XRs than for the MK1 or 2s (RS2000 excluded), maybe because I was drooling over them in the showroom floors while growing up.
That just means I dig yours in a big way. :-)

Always loved the 1600i, more so than the rs turbos etc. That looks to be a gorgeous example and I look forward to seeing how stuff develops.

Nice choice! I had a blue one a few years back and I regret outing it cheap because the bonnet blew up. This was after it had been repaired because the bonnet blew up. I was sulking and couldn't understand why a car would want to keep destroying itself like this.... Even researching 'herbie' movies didn't providing any informations....

That just means I dig yours in a big way. :-) Similar for me I guess mate. Although the mk1 RS1600 wins over the mk2 RS2000 imo! Thanks. You're the third person that has pointed me in that direction, so I shall obey! Cheers fella. Nice car iv'e always fancied one of these too. In fact I know where there is one sitting under a tarp in a garden near me. Its a crime! Save it! Reckon they would sell? It is a crime, I agree. Cheers! Love the name btw lol Always loved the 1600i, more so than the rs turbos etc. That looks to be a gorgeous example and I look forward to seeing how stuff develops. Me too mate. The S1, (when they were everywhere) was always too 'common' for me. I have also never been a 100% fan of all the colour coding. Although they still as good as snap my neck when I see one lol. The S2 is also looking better and better these days too, and the prices are refelcting this! Hopefully this is going to be the car I hope it is/looks to be. It's a first for me, not having a car that I want to put my own stamp on. All I am after here is originality. Thanks mate. Nice choice! I was sulking and couldn't understand why a car would want to keep destroying itself like this.... Even researching 'herbie' movies didn't providing any informations.... Ta Caspian blue RSi, lovely mate! There cannot be many of those left now. Sorry to hear about the bonnet 'blues'! Herbie could only dream of having vinyl so cool though lol Wheres the Like button in real life? LIKE! You coming round to the dark side/seeing sense like Ben? You're more than welcome to have a good mooch about, if you wanna sit down though that will have to wait, seeing as the seats are on the garage floor atm. Should be back in by the time your garlic VOSA magnet is mencaing the black top once more though. ;D Only showing 133 left registered in the uk .. we have one you have another .. should we start a list off see who's got the rest .. I initially heard there was around 250, then 350. Where's the 133 figure from, howmanyleft? The RSOC has a register of them I think. Someone on there said 'looking forward to getting this registered'? What colour is yours dude? lovely car did you say it came from Cardiff, if so I think I saw it a while back (the black front plate rings lots of bells) I did indeed. It belonged to a bloke called Jim, who works at Kwik Fit in Cardiff, but lives in Barry. You may have seen it on the ramp at his work? Someone else said they had seen it there too. I think the last time you would have noticed that front plate would have been in '10. As in the 5 years he owned it, it was only used for the first 3, living in storage for the last 2. He tells me he only covered 200 miles in the last 2 years. I found a Barry Mc Donalds receipt from the second half of 2010 when I removed the seats lol. The plates will be going the journey. I will go with some raised letter jobs from Framptoms, or maybe some more serck style arcylics. Very nice mate My pal has a blue one, I would say it's probably my favourite mk3 escort (early xr3 a close second) A man, or is that men? after my own heart. Bet the Caspian one is awesome! As for the early XR3, I was going to buy this one a few years back, but had nowhere to keep/restore it. Talk about unmolested! I'm sure it was only £300 too.

Here's my mate's caspian blue RS with my mk2 Two fantastic looking cars there mate. Love your mk2! Ben, the black loses too much detail for me, over the other choices. The spoilers and bumpers blend into the car. That's the main gripes. The fact the wheels match the vinyl - and pre '73 plates is pretty cool though. lol
