Quick appeal for opinions, I fancy a crossbow, i've always wanted one since I was little and I guess i'm now responsible enough to own one ;D However I know nothing about them.... Its going to be for target practise and possibly vermin/ bunny control, nothing larger, I've got permission to use 7 acres of open land but can't make any noise. I've had a quick look on the net and there's a bit of a price difference, so what would be a good entry level bow that will do what I want? Thanks edit just been googling for an appropriate photo, have this for your trouble.

I've recently wanted to try archery more and more.... building a crossbow isn't too difficult, but I want a proper bow+arrow!

Used to do archery back in the '90's. Had a compound bow and it was ace! The thing was unbelievably powerful but as mentioned, targets and proper club only. If you have permission to hunt vermin and sound is a problem, the humble air rifle is the way to go. A pre-charged rifle with a silencer fitted is whisper quiet and you won't have to go and get your pellets after you have fired it!

As mentioned any bow hunting is illegal, and most target clubs don't support crossbows so check there is one near you before deciding. Compound crossbows are not allowed for UK target and there is also an arrow speed limit.
They are generally frowned upon as "not proper archery" (so were compound bows in the 80's) and they have a poor image following several high profile shootings.
That said they are recognised as a category by Archery GB and there are competitions etc for them. I don't find them as satifying as recurve or compound bows, they don't shoot as far or as accurate but each to there own.
Do lots of local research and good luck.
