i got a job on a chevy pick up , old 50s one with round lights
i need rhd lights for it , are lights from that era almost universal in fitment ?
how were they held in ..i see most cars have a bucket , the lamp and a trim bezel but never really tinkered with one

most cars had screws to hold the bezel to the bucket which in turn holds the light in.
Sizes are pretty standard as lights were usually bought in from people like Lucas or whatever, however there can be differences in the locating tabs that make them sit upright, or holes in the back or gaps in the slivering to fit sidelight bulbs if they are not separate, neither are insurmountable problems to get round though if your at all handy.

yeah sidelight holes or differant bulbs is no bother
so basicly they're sandwiched between the bucket and a ring ? if ive got all the old set up the i should be able to swap the lamp?

Should be able to, yeah. I'm not fortunate enough to be familiar with 50s Chevy pickups but they look like normal 7" ones to me. If that's the case, it should be case of searching for mini/defender/mx5 headlamps and picking up a pair from about £25 on ebay.
