Well my, possibly last-existing, black Royale saloon is gone so it seems fitting to bring in another black car to replace it. It'll never have the majesty of a Royale but imo is quite a nice little car and has been waiting to be finished over 6 years so I should really sort it out.
I'll explain in more detail eventually but briefly this was the first car I ever welded/painted/restored/modified. Took about 3 years and it was a crushing disappointment when I tried driving it.
The remit was: very plain standard external look; no engine/fuel system/ignition mods; big alloys; nice and low; leather interior and few nice touches, such as wooden steering wheel.
It all went to plan and I was very happy with the paint and visual side of things but driving it was terrible. The big wheels and/or lowered suspension ruined it. I'd always loved the way my 3 stock Polos drove so this seemed a huge step backwards.
So....it has been sitting gathering dust since 2006 and I've never had a pressing need to resolve the issue as someone gave me an old Suzuki Swift in 2006 that lasted me till November 2010 then I got the Royale which lasted till yesterday.
This time there will be no new daily driver which forces me to resurrect the Polo project.
Plan is standard wheels and suspension and, hopefully, off we go
farewell to the King
Prince Regent ?
a strange but favourite pic of mine
Connolly leather hide has got a bit dusty
how the car looked when purchased back in May 1997
how the interior looked back then
toy cars
decision made a couple of years ago to refurb the standard wheels and repair the bumper beams
etch primed
tyres fitted after celly primer
then matt black top coat whilst tyres still deflated
and lastly a brand new Solex 31 PIC(T) 7 carb
