Hi all, thanks for looking.
So I have in my possession this, ahem, lovely piece of Americana courtesy of a friend.
Basically he lives in Germany, where he owns 2 Fox body Mustangs and a Charger project. The other week he was browsing UK ebay, came across this and thought it would make a wonderful daily driver to satisfy his bizarre 80's Ford fetish and bids like a man possessed.
I'm happy to go collect the car for him and bring it back, log book in my name etc ready to export to Germany on his behalf......except just after this happens he has some kind of homer Simpson esque epiphany, realises fixing the charger is where it's at, puts the Fox bodies up for sale and adopts a Nissan Primera as a daily driver.
Anyway, this leaves me with a rather large, slightly interesting car in my name which I just cannot keep (see my sig I already have too many cars) therefore I'm putting it up for sale.
Now I have to admit I've never had an American car and I don't know an awful lot about these cars. I know it's a V6, I know it has a super charger, I know wikipedia says it has 210hp but Google and the internetz says a smaller SC pulley gives you 250. I know it's deceptively large (doesn't look too big until you see the shot of it comprehensively overhanging a parking space) and I know it appears to be mostly there.
I also know that if you put the windows down, make the seat horizontal and play gangsta rap really loud whilst driving though your estate you feel like an extra in 8 mile but look like an .
Anyway, that's the story over, guess I'd better give up some facts and details:
Tax: No, currently SORN but I added it to my classic insurance policy (for £90 pa) so I could tax by negotiation.
MOT: Until the 30th November 2012
Mileage: 101,074 miles
Service history: Until 83,000 miles in the book, random scraps of paper after that.
Good bits: It appears to be intact and it's not rusty, the super charger works and it makes nice whiny suckey noises. The seats are very comfortable and there is masses of paperwork with it, including the UK V5 which is of course in my name.
The paperwork seems to suggest the first 2 or 3 owners really doted on the car (there are printed magazine articles and hand written extra notes about servicing and the like with it). It also appears that owner no 1 worked for the British Embassy in Washington and took the car in and out of the UK to each of his subsequent postings, which is nice.
The history for the past couple of years is a bit quiet, which I think leads us nicely to:
Bad bits: Other than it's general "once loved but now a bit on hard times" appearance really there are few bad things I have found, although they are not necessarily tiny things:
1. Every now and then it cuts out and refuses to start for about 5 minutes. We have tried a couple of times to diagnose this and when we've been on standby to sort it out it has refused to mis behave. It always drops out from base idle (never under load) and it's usually when its getting up to temp. For instance when I drove it back from Sheffield it cut out once after a mile then re-started and drove fine, all the way to MK including a break for a coffee and a cake.
2. The overdrive does not work. It's fine with the other gears but deffo no O/D when it shifts to O/D it's just like a false neutral, shifting from D-O back to D brings the ratios back.
3. It has adjustable damping and if you leave it in std the "Firm Ride" light flashes.
4. The hood gas stays don't, er, stay and when your looking in the engine bay the hood suddenly tries to mash you into the Super Charger if you're not ready for it. This can be alleviated with a well positioned sturdy stick (or the parcel shelf from my mates Audi 80 but he got upset and took it back).
Now I don't know much about American cars so I've no idea how to price this or indeed how desirable it might be. My man in Germany isn't much use because these cars are worth a bit more over there so I'm saying £750 but I'm open to offers, and I'm always open to swaps because I like interesting cars although I'd need to swap for something kinda roadworthy and some cash my way to at least appease my man in Bonn.
I don't really know what else to say other than to say please PM me, or if you fancy give me a call on O7734 7O4125.
Let's roll with the pictures:
Thanks for looking.
