while i'm selling the riley elf, have been browsing the forum for next project. have always fancied an mgbgt but also like the lowered euro look style (eg mk1 golf gti's, salmmed '70's mercs etc). was wondering whether it would be possible to get the lowered look on a mgbgt. i think the steel wheeled versions run 5x14" rims and a high side wall.

I don't understand the question. It's possible to lower any car, surely high sidewalls aren't going to stop you - just get some lo-pro's.

Pretty much, then see what happens to the camber. I can't remember off the top of my head what the suspension set up on an MGB GT is but anything can be made lower.
Oh this sounds like an absolute awesome idea, an MGB with a euro shaved look would be the absolute muts nuts!

I don't understand the question. It's possible to lower any car, surely high sidewalls aren't going to stop you - just get some lo-pro's. as I haven't done this approach before wasn;t sure of the issues. particularly as mgbgts have pretty skinny rims/tyres which are already pretty much right out at the arches already. bolting up dished rims to get the right look could puch the rims way out past the arches. that then gets you in flared arches territory, which I not the look i'm after. like I said,i've never done this before as only have messed with minis

MGBGT's run coils on front, you can get lowered springs from most MG specialists....and leaf springs on back so it's lowering block time. Remember that they still run lever-arm shocks so might be a good time to fit a telescopic conversion.
Dunno how low you can go though, most MGB's are pretty low to start with- next time you see one have a peek underneath.
I'm with everyone else though, would look awesome.

pre rubber bunmper ones are very low already, i guess you can change back from whatever BL did to get the bumpers up to american height, dunno if you can go much lower than that?

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

this is on the 'bay at the mo as an example - perhaps keep the wires but put the lowest profile tyre on and lower away?

found on the web:-
"The MGB has been fitted with 14" diameter wheels. There have been three types: 4 J bolt-on steel wheels, 4 1/2 J wire wheels 5 J Rostyle wheels. The standard tyre fitted to the 1800 was 155 or 165 SR 14. With the increase in power and possibly in top speed there will be a greater strain on the tyres. If you have changed the axle ratio you will have to fit HR rated tyres to comply with insurance requlations".
profile is about 70mm I think
lowest profile tyre i can find is 165/60/14
maybe i could find some dished 13's (5.5 or 6") running a 175/50/13.. my mini runs 185/50/13's on 7x13" superlites??

Not enough modded MGB's around I reckon! Slam it into the weeds and run some wide dished steelies would be my suggestion!

My mate used to race MGB's and they used to raise the arch up a bit to run the car lower
He used to use a 15" minilite with a 185 Yoko tyre from memory

Just photoshops from me : You could get some nice 14" wheels under the arches, you don't need to be running the same rolling radius that you started with and having slightly wider wheels with a different offset would put the wheels nicely out in the arches... Lowering doesn't seem to be a problem, sounds like a winner,... I'm sure we'll all be happy to help with calculations and technical stuff if you need it,.. just to see a well modded MGB

I found an old photoshop on my 'puter today that has some relevance here: The Lotus wheels are the right stud pattern too. Failing that, how about a set of TR6 steels and Smart Car tyres! ;D

The Eclat wheels were made by Exacton if that's any help....and that colour's very similar to BL Aqua from the late 60's.... I love that combination of wheels and colour scheme.
