well despite having two VW Trekkers in various states of repair I don't (cant) stop "hunting" and came upon a very very low mileage MK2 Golf.
it was 200 miles away and only a few poor pics to go on, spoke with the chap on the phone and got the instant "he's a decent fella" vibe so took a punt.
Tied this in with a weekend at Legoland and Chessington last weekend which also tied in nicely with a near on country wide heatwave
I quickly looked over the car, tyres ok, bodywork ok, interior ok, oil and water ok and to me most importantly the fan kicked in when it should as I was dreading the M25 slog
money exchanged and the book pack was handed over and thrown on the passenger seat, topped up the rough £5-£10 of juice in the tank and off I set.
Hit standing traffic almost immediately on the M25 and again on the M1 due to an accident.
Luckily had no issues, despite not knowing the car it performed faultlessly all 200 miles back at a steady 65, using the £20 I'd put in and returning to the 1/4 it already had in when I collected.
so to the spec, she's a 5 door 1.6 auto GL, power windows and Central locking. no pas but chrome (effect??) on the door rubbers and screen. inside is in very good shape but a saggy rear headlining lets it down slightly.
rusting outer steels need a refurb but the chrome inners are in great shape.
The mileage is a genuine 14k, yes 14k ;D
this is backed up with every mot, all done at the same garage in London. service history is all there and long forgotten things like
" collected from customer and returned washed " are on the service sheets
original V5 shows "Harley St" as the 1st owner, i've been told a Dr but cant confirm and the 2nd owner is a retired 84yr old Doctor, sounds far fetched but I'm just waiting a reply to 100% confirm this.
minor scratch on the bonnet and a small dent to the nsf wing are the only real defects.
whilst it had mot til end of October I put it in for test today before I truly fell in love with it and typically it passed first time , therefore I need to spend endless hours cleaning and making good the odd little niggle as she's nearly perfect.
one poor pic until she's cleaned and I can take some worthy shots.
ps the interior is Brown which I know excites many a folk on here
hmmm see how its gone from it to she in just this one post ;D
