Bought this old girl last week, low miles of app 50k and owned by an elderly couple for most of its life. Its at my mechanics place at the moment to work how bad the rot is underneath after failing its last MOT in 2010. Only got a couple of photos at the moment but I'll post more with more details once I get the lowdown on what it needs doing.. Main thing that drew me to it was the colour and the great condition of the interior-even has the original lambswool over rugs

Jesus. At first I thought this was my car's twin retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=118424 but it looks like you have a coupe judging by those back seats. I'm a bit colour blind but to me this looks like Caramel body colour which is normally VDP but there were no official VDP coupes PS. I wouldn't worry too much about any body rot pricewise as the sills, jack points, floors etc are relatively cheap but if someone else is doing the work for you could be pricey on labour. As with any car. Good thing about these is that panels are available (before anyone says it, yes, I know the coupes differ from saloons)

Thanks guys, yes the colour is fabulous. Its like one of those avocado bathroom suites from the 70's ;D. Foxy, been following your thread, looks like a fab car, love a double six, I had a series 3 Vanden plas 20 years ago.I'll see if I've got a pic anywhere. Oh and it is a 4 door btw, do they not normally have individual back seats? Thats good to hear about the panel prices,so far all he's said is the inner wings are pretty rusty!

The back seats were only individual on the VDP but the seats on yours just look very like ones I've seen on the coupes. Having said that I've never seen a good pic of the rear seat of a Daimler saloon. It was the sort of curved bit a the armrest which made me think they were coupe seats.
Had a look at the parts lists and they do differ from saloon to coupe but the only obvious difference seems to be that the pleats on the cushion on the coupe go all the way to the sides. The saloon doesn't.
There is actually a NOS inner wing on Ebay just now for £39.....

A very nice looking car! I'll be watching this thread as I have a bit of an obsession with the XJ's.
The individual back seats in a Daimler VDP are easy to spot as they literally are individual, not being joined in any way. They look like two more front seats but with a fold down arm between them and no headrest. They have wide pleats in the leather too - four in the fronts and five in the backs respectively... foxy - I believe your seats are this style?
The rear seat shown is the standard Jaguar/Daimler S2 item. The Daimler has better leather and less pleats again but the shape is the same. The Coupe rear seat looks very similar but is slightly narrower as it has an arm and a pocket intruding at either side. Most Coupe bits started life as modified saloon parts, which kind of explains it.
The colour to me looks like Juniper green, which was used on Daimlers from 1975 on up to the Series 3. Its definitely not caramel as that a very golden kind of colour. Daimlers (and VDP) did get some nice colours. Morello Cherry is my favourite - I keep debating colours for a respray on my S1.

Thanks guys, great knowledge on here. Much apreciated Yeh Rich, I think your right about it being Juniper green.Googled that and found a couple of cars that look very similar. Still waiting to hear how much works required from my mechanic ,getting a bit nervous now.

Good news is the car passed its MOT on Friday, bad news is he was in the unit until 2am Tuesday and Wednesday night doing the welding so that bit of paper hasnt come cheap! Should be picking it up on Tuesday morning

"a touch of welding" hehe, thats an understatement and a half! Think I've done quite well to be honest, he said there was far more needed than he first thought, everytime he poked away at it it was worse than he'd thought it was going to be.He'd quoted me a price to do the job though and he stuck to that regardless of how many hours ended up going into it.
