I don't have a garage, therefore the car sits on the driveway. Datsun were known for rust and I want to look after my first classic car!
Anyway, in terms of protection, I have put on bilt hamber electrox and dynax ub, under the car. Planning, to paint red oxide on the sils next week and paint over with green paint (car is green)
I have coated the car with Colinite wax, 3 coats applied. Beeds very nicely when it's raining. I have waxed all under the bonet, engine area, boot lid inside the car. Is there anything else I can do.
What do others do!

A good breathable quality car cover, which helps circulate air under the cover and resists rain, and frost etc. and start it up to temp every now n then. if your not going to use it over winter put it on axle jacks take the pressure of the tyres standing. Or if you have money to burn a car bubble, guess you haven't but its an idea, I'm in the same boat as you just moved to a house closer to my ailing mother which doesnt have a garage, so I'm having to get a cover for my 'tina

One thing you could do if haven't .... is take the door panels of inside and wax oil the doors inside but don't block the drain holes at the bottom. That should help protect the doors as if i remember friends datsun's ...doors went first. Obviously clear any rust off first. Even my partners 05 fiesta drain holes constantly get blocked with tree bits etc and need clearing often ...nice swishing noise, actually quite relaxing :-). Don't buy an imported Guernsey Ford .... ... its where a lot are stored and shipped over to be resold. I've a 17 yr old V6 Scorpio and hers is so much more rusty underneath...inchcape ford are the worst ''not that you may buy a ford'' .. good luck with your project :-)

You've undersealed it, which is good. If you're using it over the winter, wash it off regularly, jetwash out the arches and underside where you can to get any salt off. Personally, if you haven't got a garage, I'd try to use it as much as possible. Also, try and wax it as much as possible which helps a lot.

I'm not convinced car covers are that good , you often get blisters if the paint isnt original
id say wash it often , open the windows /bonnet/boot on a nice clear breezy day , if its insured then a good run out on a dry day will dry out the underneath

Sounds like you have made a good start. The next step is to think about how rainwater is going to get into the car, interior, or inside doors, boot etc. Your screen rubbers need to be in as good nick as possible. Even if the rubber themselves are okay, check for gaps at the ends etc. Then check the boot seal, and bonnet seal etc.
I'm not convinced by car covers either, but I would be tempted in a half cover, that covers the glasshouse. You seal that off and you are just left with rainwater dripping down the bodywork which is far easier to manage than water getting in via other gaps.

what Datsun is it?
some are worse then others for having water traps.
all of them i've seen have had very poor door glass scrapers which leave gaps at the ends meaning water goes straight in. i tend to fill the gap with tiger seal and that works well. also make sure the drain holes are clear
some of the bigger ones have a water trap all the way around the front and rear screens so i tend to blow out any moisture with an air line and fill the gap with screen sealer.
another rot spot is the heater cowl between the bonnet and front screen. on a lot of them you can remove this easliy and get in there and clear out any leaves or the like and make sure the water drains are clear. then paint in there with some nice thick paint.
drain holes in the sills is a good idea too.

If you use a cover make sure the car is completely dry before you fit it otherwise they can do more harm than good.
Use it over winter as well moving the car disturbs and sitting water and can let it out. The best thing you can do is catch any forming rust early, if you see a bubble or a stain treat it straight away, this technique allowed me to keep my DAF rust free when used as a daily and they also have a ponchance for rust.

The first and IMO most important step to stopping Datsuns (and any other car) from rusting is to keep it clean! Salt and accumulations of grime will kill them very rapidly, especially in winter. In fact just one winter is enough to do serious damage if the car isn't protected and looked after.
Dynax UB everywhere underneath, Dynax S50 in all the closed sections and a good hard wax to protect the paintwork. If the car doesn't have any wheelarch liners on the front then make some...it really helps. Anywhere water can gfet in, make sure it's protected and there's a way for the water to get out again, especially doors. Seals on sliding door glass never will seal 100% which is why doors have drain holes...just make sure the inside of the door is treated and the drains are clear. Same goes for the scuttle area.
Point of water ingress and corrosion vulnerability vary from model to model. What is it?
