Hey all, I am looking for a decent full exhaust system (manifold, centre pipe, back box) for my ford orion, I am wanting to unleash a few ponies whilst giving it a nice tone, don't want a constant BOARRR!!! Just something nice when I open her up a bit, only problem is I don't know what to choose, ashley, magnex or sportex, which to choose? money isnt really a problem unless its like £600 or something Cheers, Ross.

I got a bit of a mix match on mine.....magnex 4 branch, as they ashley ones crack so easy!! stock mid system, then a piper back box, given me a perfect mix for me, i did have magnex mid, but was to loud and magnex back boxes sound horrible!ashelys in general are just loud! so avoid unless your near deaf!infact, my old orion had a full ashley system, and a deaf friend of mine said my car was to NOISEY!!!the cheek of it!he was right tho... if money isnt much of a problem, have a system made then you can choose what noise it makes! a brap brap or a ROARRRRR or chuff, chuff!

I have a Janspeed tubular manifold for sale complete with heat wrap. It goes as far as the standard joint just behind the gearbox. PM me if interested. Smiler.

The Janspeed manifolds and exhausts are made quite well. However, I would not expect plenty of ponies to be unleashed with the fitment of the maniold and exhaust .

I wouldnt mind a full janspeed exhaust, just finding them is a bit curse word! should unleash a few horses, I have read that janspeed usually do give a 5% gain on power, just going to do the usual exhaust and airfilter mods before I start spending some propper dosh on the car.

piper say 15bhp, but it would never happen, lol, you might notice a bit of a difference, but its the start of mods really, more mods you do to a engine, the quicker the gasses come out the better! the exhaust them selfs are the same, its the back box mounts that are different, its in a different place, nothing a welder cant sort to move the hanger! janspeed are loud mate, same as ashleys!its a old skool exhaust too, so be hard to find a good one, ashelys you can still buy new, you will find a XR3i system easier then a orion one, all u need to do is extend the back box! once ya done the exhaust and air filter, chip and cam are next sensible mods, but power for money turbo is the way to go, and being a EFI, its a very simple job, drop a turbo lump in, stick a turbo map sensor on there, set of injectors and chipped ecu, 200bhp is quite easily achievable !

The manifold, as stated, is going to improve things more as other engine mods are incorporated. It will basically provide the foundation to allow other modifications to have greater effect by reducing the restrictions and compromise of the original cast iron manifold.
The manifold is made from mild steel as are most contemporary performance manifolds for this engine. Stainless manifolds can be prone to cracking due to the stresses involved in heat expansion acting in various directions on the various routed pipes. All bends are mandrel formed to prevent narrowing of the pipes at the bends.
As for volume, yes the Janspeed system is loud, but that's the exhaust system, not the manifold. You should be able to bolt up a standard exhaust system to this manifold and retain normal noise levels. Of course the overall performance effect could well be diminished depending on what other modifications have been carried out to the engine.
Even if you decide not to go for my manifold, this is definitely a step in the right direction. Fitting a 'sporty' exhaust system to a standard manifold would be a bit pointless as the exhaust gasses have already been restricted at there source.
I might look into options for fitting a tubular manifold to the Escorts Zetec.

sorry if it look like i implied a manifold might make it noisier, i didnt, lol, tho you do hear it "chuff" though a manifold! mines cracked, welded it up, put a flexi in instead of the useless joint they have, never had it crack again!

Oops, sorry, that bit wasn't aimed at you. I don't know how much the OP knows so kind of put it in there just in case.
