now, I more than likely should be doing something a lot more constructive than pondering this, but here goes anyway
for ages now I've had a hankering to put an old 50's brit lorry cab onto summat else, to make a pickup - D21, B2000, sherpa etc that sort of thing
But while thinking about it, I thought about using an Iveco turbodaily, as they have a full chassis, and I have an affinity for the 2.8 turbo sofim lump fitted to these old things - but have it as a beavertail truck, so I could move dead cars about easier - maybe with some sides so I could do tat / swapmeets too
Now, they are available as beavertails, but they seem to command a premium over the van based ones - so what i was wondering is what's the actual proceedure for converting a van into a beavertail? I'd want it to be fully legal, plated for an exact weight carrying capacity - if I wanted it dodgy I'd just continue as I am now
is it as simple as 'couping' the back of the van up to close the cab off, building a bed and ramps, then getting it inspected? can you get the specs on overhang / axle weights etc from somewehre??
has anybody on here actually done this?
I presume it would be best to convert the van to a beavertail first, then do the cab swap and rebodying from there?
any bright ideas? ;D
