I need to remove a bad coat of enamel on my bonnet, I put it on last night and its had a reaction with the coat I put on last week, I cant use the heatgun as I don't want to damage the filler (theres loads on there to smooth out the warping from shotblasting) so are there any paint strippers that wont damage body filler?

Hi bud, what car have you got? Is it the 68 220? Could you get a another bonnet?
You could try thinners first and melt the paint or the only way after that is rubbing down by hand!!
Word of warning- Never- ever shot blast flat areas!

Personally I'd just sand it back. Even if you did find something to let you chemically remove the paint, I can imagine it causing issues with stripper soaking in to the filler, and/or damaging the filler. A coat of paint or 2 shouldn't take too long to remove with a DA and some harsh discs.
That said, there could be a way of doing it, it's just the approach I'd take as I've never been a huge fan of chemically stripping things, often the mess and potential for contamination's more hassle than it's worth.

think ill try some 40 grit discs on the grinder to get rid of most of the uncured mess then DA down to filler

40 on a grinder? you crazy? thay will ruin the bonnet and youll have to start from scratch ,
how bad is the reactions?? , small areas?flat it out , prime the areas then blow em in the repaint the bonnet , or da it back smooth with 320 , that will get enougth paint off with out hassle and leave your surface near ready for more paint,.

Yeah, 60 or 80 on the DA should get through it pretty quick. If it's not cured then it'll be a bit of a pain clogging the discs, might be worth occasionally washing the discs in acetone or something if it's really bad.

Thinners, and lots of rags if it's still fresh. Otherwise you're not going to be able to remove the paint without affecting the filler somehow. If you use another method you'll have to block the filler to get it flat again, if you DA it the paint is harder than the filler so as soon as you go through the paint it'll flat down quicker resulting in an uneven surface. Paint stripper will soak into the filler and cause extra problems.

If it's enamel then as panelbeaterpeter says, use thinners. I doubt anything else will work without touching the filler.

If its cheap enamel...as in halfords tins, a terrys towel and petrol, petrol doesn't attack filler, and petrol will eat into todays crappy aerisols even after weeks of curing....this definatly works, my car is fully fillered chip foose style, I've had petrol spilt on it and it doesn't affect it

P.s if you use thinners, make sure its not 2k thinners, this is what i clean my spreaders in, and it eats through even set filler

Also, if its celly thinner, this will go into the filler as its pourus, any paint disolved into the thinners will contaminate the filler with paint that's already causeing you reaction issues
