I collected this one from freecycle nearly a year ago, knowing that it would eventually come in handy, but other projects have prevented me from giving it any attention. Now the time for mixing cement approaches, I should probably do something about it, as I recall, the drum bearing is shagged so it'll jam up when used, this week I intend to strip it out and see if it is fixable.

That'll be great, I've got to try and work out how it all comes apart first though! Luckily the leg came apart ok so she fits in Trev.

Took the mixer to work today as I fully expected it to be a pain in the to take to pieces, well I was partly right; first I pulled off the drum guard to check the condition of the ring gear: Given that the teeth are still pretty decent on it, and the considerable amount of play in the drum, I'm pretty certain the bearing has collapsed, so I knocked out the roll pins in the base of the shaft and proceeded to a hydraulic puller and some heat, stopping via big drifts, hammers and air chisels, all to no avail, here is how I left the mixer after lunchtime: curse word, after a bit of industrial swearing, some acetylene and a lot of force, I got the drum free,, you can see the mess below, but what really has shat in my pond is the fact that the bearing plate is welded on to the drum, so I'm not really sure what to do with it all now... Ho hum... Some acetylene required:Very grotty shaft housingBearing plate welded to drum?

Hmm that escalated quickly: I hope once the centre is spilt I'll be able to do something with the bearing, failing that I'm going to investigate a new plate for the bottom of the drum and use a rear hub from a xantia to mount it on, oh and probably a bit of lathe work to mount the stub axle in the mixer frame...

I'm liking your work. At this rate it will be better built than when it left the factory.
