America LaFrance, as in the iconic American fire engines. They still survive to this day. That car is a 1915 Speedster, factory race car built on a fire engine chassis, 14.7 litre (802ci!) engine and drive to the rear wheels via chain.

I see someone's been busy with the drill on the front axle beam, because that is going to reduce the weight!!

I too love the windscreen, it's one of the best bits on the whole car. I bet it sounds amazing.

these cars are just pure beauty to me. everything about them seems so special, they look dangerous, menacing and huge. I cant get enough of them.

Although, as I've said before, I'd like to build one with a massive, hugely over-built engine with pre-war origins like a Gardner 6LW (8.4L straight-six NA diesel, 120bhp at 1700rpm, 0.64 tons). Or maybe a 6LX (10.4L, 150bhp at 1700rpm, 0.83 tons). Preferably with a pre-select gearbox for a laugh. ;D

This is most excellent. Front brakes are for the weak.
The only modifications I can think of would be a wingback and maybe a hearth.

^ Looks like a six to me: older engines were often made with 'banks' of 2 cylinders, partly because it meant that the same casting could be used for 2, 4, or 6 cylinder engines. Certainly there are two spark plugs per bank*, and two valves going into the same manifold in each bank. Banks of 3 cylinders existed too: Gardner made use of these, and their 5-cylinder engines consist of a 2-cylinder bank and a 3-cylinder bank. EDIT: Yes, six cylinder: hooniverse.com/2009/11/16/hell-yes-15-american-lafrance-14-5-liter-speedster-nuff-said/EDIT2: *4 spark plugs per bank - the other two are hidden away on the other side. One set run by a magneto, the other by a dizzy and coil.
