have been offered a 1.9 diesel engine from a renault of 1991 vintage, has anyone used one and turned it round to rwd. thinking about using it in a project don't know if its a mechanical pump or it all works of a ecu and what box you would use thanks for any info gordon

The engine fits straight into a Volvo 340. That is what Volvo did in Europe to create a 340 diesel. Of course 340 has just a bellhousing for the clutch with gearbox at rear so probably not suitable but might give you a direction to research gearbox / bellhousing combo's.

Be warned unless its turbo it will be very slow. I had a 1.9 n/a diesel in my extra van before conversion that was painfully slow.

Yes it is quite slow but it all depends on what you want to use it for? A few volvo's shared a Renault engine I.e 440/480 1.7 turbo although they were FWD.
A popular mod these days for the volvo 340 is the 1.8 F7P /2.0 F7R Renault RWD conversion, the engine I believe fit's straight in.
All the mounts for the 1.8/2.0/1.7 turbo and 1.9 diesel are the same or near enough
