I only paid £560 for the van so don't want to be doing anything hugely expensive on it but it is my work van and as such is a big advert so needs to look tidy. I don't really do bodywork but I'm gonna have a go with this one so I'm after advice on it. Should I? a) Replace the whole panel with a donor item from a scrappy. b) Pog it up. Personally I think it would probably just fall out again. c) try my hand at panel beating and beat the swine out.

That wing is a shame as other than that the van is really straight and tidy. It drives nicely and runs really well even the interior is clean and tidy, could do with a ruddy turbo though! that ancient 1.9D in it is a real slug.

could do with a ruddy turbo though! . Everyone did tell you I'd get a secondhand wing. Don't forget that they are not the same as 6N Polo hatchbacks as they are based on a Seat so you will need one from a Caddy (obviously ;D ), or an estate or Saloon Mk4 Polo.

Well I thought it was an SDI until as it was advertised as one then I noticed it has a throttle cable and mechanical fuel injection so that makes it the earlier 1.9D which is notably less powerfull. On the flip side it might be ok on chip oil
Cheers I did think it looked wider at the front than the hatch and it would have been mighty embarrising to try and fit the wrong wing.
Would an Ibiza or Cordorbra wing not fit then?

Wikipedia suggests that the caddy is only a grille and some badges different from the caddy so presumably an Inca, and therefore an Ibiza wing would fit. You'll need to check further but its something to go from

That paint has faded, so you'll never get a match. Unless you buy a second hand wing in the same colour, which has equally faded, and therefore be a perfect repair.

I'd give the hammers a go 1st, if you can get it close with a couple of hours effort, a small skim of pog and you'll be looking good after a can of paint and laqcure on top (much better than it does at the min any way).

But, if he repairs it, he'll have the same problem matching the colour up with the rest of the van. I say look for a replacement wing in the same colour. One will come up if you are patient.

A few years ago I crunched a front fender much worse than that on my white 1990 Nissan Pintara TRX. I got a replacement wing from a wreckers for $30 and the colour match was perfect, you couldn't even tell that it wasn't original. I didn't have to polish it or anything. Admittedly, silver paint is much more sensitive to colour harmony than white, but I still think that you should find something with a pretty good match. As long as it's fairly close, hardly anyone will ever notice.

Replacement wing. Mismatched panels are trendy.

If you actually look at them with a trained eye, the plastics (eg. bumpers) on most new cars are not perfectly colour-matched to the body, because they are painted separately. If you don't know to look for it, then you won't see it.
My Pintara had a doorskin replaced and painted professionally at a bodyshop in the mid '90s, and even after 10 years on the car that was still a worse colour match than the wrecking yard fender which I swapped on there. Nobody else could tell that either panel didn't match.

I would think that if no one else could tell they didn't match then to all intents and purposes they did match.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I'd probably hammer it out the best you can, add a skim of filler and then and stick some rattle can over it for now. If that doesn't look great, it'll still be an improvement on how it is now for the sake of about £7 and then you can look more respectable while waiting for a second hand wing to come up in the right colour.

I think I'm gonna pull the wing off this afternoon and have a go at beating it out. Very handily it does appear to be bolt on

Just swap it,the repair will look dismal if you haven't done it before,I used to run my own bodyshop and always thought I was a dab hand until I witnessed just how much works involved in getting it right, the difference is night and day. By all means have a play while it's off but as a repair you'll be shelling out a good £20-30 on basic materials when a wing won't be any more than that.
