fair enough on the spray can stuff, yeah as soon as i wrote my last comment, i found a place that sells the primer (sod's law!) ill just get some primer and keep applying it till I'm happy just waiting for the weather so i can do this now.. am i right in thinking that 2 pack filler primer is different to the 2 pack spray paint that is the rather nasty stuff?

2k primer is a resin, you mix it with hardner, it sands like filler, id buy a 1/2 litre and activator, brush it on as thick as you can spread that litre (after removing dead paint to the metal), buy 3 cans of pound shop gloss black spray, lightly dust some black over the primer and sand it flat so all black is gone, then spray it black with the remaining cans, total cost about £30, and who ever ends up painting the car properly one day won't curse you for it

Intresting comments re Sray Can Filler Primer, when you first said do 80 grit and then filler prime and it will cover it, I tohught no way as the spray filler primers I have used barely cover sanding marks from 240 grit in my experience! Will defo be trying the porper 2k stuff

The problem is if you use rattle cans, they put a thin coat on. Using rollers, you can get a good depth of paint so you have plenty to sand off and level out any scratches.
