Hi there,
I've tried a couple of local trimmers near where I live in Wakefield who can't do the job. I'm wanting my leather steering wheel retrimed, has anyone had this done at a trimmers ? If so could you let me know who did the job.
Thanks

I've had a quote once to get this done. The cost was more than a new leather steering wheel. Be warned that it is expensive! Retrimming steering wheels is very labour intensive.

It's an AMG Merc leather wheel, they are a stupid price second hand. But bear what you said in mind. thanks

Have you considered restoring the existing leather? You can get kits to do it, but professionals can perform some surprising rescues. Obviously it depends how far gone it is...

I've got Rovers.

Hi, the leather is well knackered and falling appart in places. I've found a place in the midlands that can make me a new cover for £50, and I've found someone who's good at cross stitch and she's having a go at fitting

I went to an auto trimmer and he told me even if I supplied the material it would still be cheaper to buy a new one as it's so time consuming, a Sadler is good shout, if you were nearer me I would recommend the guy that lives near my mum and dad

Bear in mind - when talking to a Sadler rather than an auto trimmer - that leather steering wheels should be coated (or maybe semi-aniline) leather not aniline leather. Moisture from your hands means that aniline goes very grainy very quickly whatever treatment you use.
The coating has worn away on my steering wheel and although boot polish was initially promising it's back to being grainy again after a couple of longer journeys.
