Some might say that you couldn't really improve on a 1964 DS, they're amazing whether you park them next to a '64 contemporary or a brand new car. Some might say otherwise and thus, we have a restomod '64 DS. I liked it until I saw the V8. I think it lacks imagination but I understand that it's one of the best supported modding platforms and it's reliable, which might not be the case if this was running a CX turbo engine or something to try and keep it in the family. Would it be better running on Moondiscs? Would it be better with the original mirrors? It's for sale at a slightly bonkers price of $115k. DS perfection for me. All the good looks of the original but lower and with nicer wheels. V8 doesn't bother me either, only the shell is DS its on a custom chassis IIRC.

If you were going to swap the engine, I would have thought that battery-electric power would suit the character of the DS better. Wasn't that what they drove in Gattaca, electric DSs?

Ticks all the boxes for me.Been done just right and nothing looks out of place on it.I'm not usually a fan of those wheels but think they suite it down to the ground.

Don't know how anyone can complain about the mirrors, i love how they follow the shutline of the bonnet in the first pic.

there is an awesome chopped/sectioned DS kustom somewhere within the HAMB, but ive jsut spent a while searching and i cant find it. its a lot cooler than the one above.

Lovely car; I'd make one that was even MORE quirky than the original. How does a twin-rotor hydrogen Wankel, coupled to electric motors in the rear hubs for full electric or hybrid 4WD, and electronically-controlled hydropneumatics from a C6 grab ya? there is an awesome chopped/sectioned DS kustom somewhere within the HAMB, but ive jsut spent a while searching and I cant find it. its a lot cooler than the one above. What, this one?

This is excellent. A ds is on my cars to own list. I love everything about them. This one looks great. Engine wise i thunk the v8 is fine. I would like this one parked one my drive.

I do love a modified DS, there's not enough of them. Citroen would have used a better engine had they had the funds for R&D back then, instead they had to use the one from the Traction, which means it's reliable but not interesting so swapping it makes sense, a rotary would be perfect. One thing I dislike is the wheels, they look too sporty and not classy enough but that's always easy to change.
The clean overall look suits the shape very well though, very nicely built.

That DS is a long-time favourite on RR. Nice to see it again. Not that I'm telling people what they should or shouldn't like but I have to say that anyone who finds controversy in a tastefully modified DS is probably on the wrong forum! Well, that's me told but it is good to have a reminder that anything goes here. I expected to be burned as a heretic for posting this, I thought the DS was one of the universal holy cows that cannot be bettered. RE the hydrogen wankels: now THAT would be worth $115k. Yeah, this is what I was thinking of then I made the moondisc comment. I've loved this look since I saw the Jerry Hathaway SM Pickup+racecar+trailer combo.

I believe that the projected engine was to be an air cooled flat six. Pity it didn't make it into production, some enterprising Belgian would have found a way to shoe horn one into a 2CV, imagine how much fun that would be! Interesting thought: This Gene Winfield creation was based on a 1956 DS chassis and fitted with a Chevrolet Corvair engine - an air cooled flat six, hmmm! Develop this thought a bit further, take an early DS and make it look like this: Keep the front wheel drive and the drybollix, but slot in a twin turbo'd Corvair lump running on LPG. Instant win and nobody is offended, (or everybody is, which is even better)

The HAMB DS is incredible, like a Chapron \ Heuliez mash-up. Did he ever finish it?
The OP car I struggle to get excited about, because it's got about as much Citroen left in it as I have adamantium in my bones. It's beautifully finished and sits nicely, but at the end of the day it's just another shiny bitsa rod with a Chevy V8. In the US that engine is what the Pinto is to modders in the UK - 'I know what I like, and I like what I know.'
If they were going to all that effort and fabrication, could they not have at least tried a different engine in there?
It was a great idea to start with modifying a DS, and a brave one too. Shame it ended up RWD with a V8 - there's any number of home grown sedans they could have modified instead. The drivetrain's there and waiting.
I await the inevitable bollocking for 'railing against creativity' or whatever the court doth please itself with.

I think I prefer the flat lighted ones if the truth be told, they just seem to flow better to my eye. Worth adding that I'd be happy with either mind The wheels are pleasing on this here white example
