Hi everyone,
I have recently taken up kayaking. I went kayaking/camping recently and some of the people there had a VW transporter that they could sleep in and fit their kayaks inside. This seemed brilliant to me so I would like to get a minibus to convert to a simple camper.
I am not that interested in a sink/toiler/hobs etc as I all the stuff required as currently we stay in a tent.
Anyway to be able to fit my and my wifes kayaks in the van we need it to be at least 3m long in the back. Ideally longer. This will allow us to have racks on one side of the van for the kayaks, with space along side for storage with a bed on top.
Anyway the reason I am posting is that I don't know what van to buy! I think a minibus is the best thing to get as it will be halfway there ie already have windows, plus insulation. Maybe heater etc.
I have a budget of £1500.00 could maybe stretch further and would like something fairly modern (late 90's or so).
I have been looking at LDV convoys, transits, ducatos/boxer/relays etc
Does anyone have any experience of what a good simple to work van with cheap parts would be? My main concern is that it will be reliable and easy to fix. The late 90's transits seem ideal except that they rot badly. I cant weld so ideally want something that doesnt rust too much. (Not asking much I know!)
Thanks in advance!
