So i cant decide what engine i want to put into my 100e anglia. Toying with the idea of a 1.8 td sierra lump as no body has done it before and it would make a nice cruiser, but its an extremely heavy engine and from what i can gather from reading some threads, not a very good engine to tune i.e boost increase and fuel increase to get more power.
Now ive also thought about a 2 litre silvertop out of a mondeo in rwd format but i don't know what i need to make this work. could i just get a 1.8 cvh and swap all the bits over onto the zetec?
Or what about a zvh? I'm starting to sway more towards this as it gives excellent torque and from what i can gather isnt too difficult to do. My question is tho regarding this conversion, what holes need drilling and is there any templates avaible for me to do this?
Either petrol engine would be run on a set of 1000cc bike carbs as to keep it simple in terms of wiring.
Many thanks
Nick

I've been looking into doing a ZVH conversion on my escort but after reading the pros and cons, you might as well just stick with the zetec and either fit as you say bike carbs and or twin 40's.. You'll need something such as the ESC module from a MK4 escort for the spark.

well theres a mk1 mondeo in a local scrappy with edis4 on it, i was going to look at getting the whole 2 litre silvertop out of that with the edis and run carbs on that What do i need to do a rwd zetec conversion on a budget tho?

I don't think the Mondeo runs an EDIS module - although I could be wrong. The coilpack is the same though.
Also, the EDIS module doesn't alter the ignition timing by itself - that's done by the ECU which you are removing. So either you need something like a MegaJolt to provide the advance signal, or the pre-EDIS ignition module. It looks like the EDIS module, but has a vacuum pipe take-off, and is a stand-alone unit that doesn't need an ECU to run.
I think it was fitted to the last Escorts and Fiestas with carbs, just before they introduced injection and Catalytic converters.
The Zetec is a lovely lump - would make a very nice car.

I seriously looked into this when I had an XR3i, as I fancied keeping the K-jet and original ignition.
From what I've read the head bolts straight on, no extra holes need to be drilled, you can if you want (although plenty of people don't bother) block up the extra oil feeds from the block to head. The only thing I can remember of the top of my head that proves a problem is the CVH water pump which requires an adaptor plate to fit the Zetec block.
With a CVH rwd head it will probably work out a fair amount cheaper than RWD'ing a Zetec, maybe......

The 1.8 TD i put in my Mk3 cortina came from a 100E, tight fit and using the 4 cyl gearbox gave starter fitting issues otherwise it went in but TBH i'd prefer a zetec, millage wont be that far off the diesel i recon (within 10MPG easy i recon) and it's way WAY lighter

If you're thinking of doing the ZVH to make it easier /cheaper to carb, you could bear in mind that laser cut plates are available now for under £100 to fit pinto/xflow manifolds to a Zetec head (banger racers use them).
You can also wire up a pre-PATS Mk1 Mondeo ECU to do the sparks really easily, just needs a handful of wires from the ECU to the coilpack, module and crank position sensor & then lives & earths to the ECU - I think it's about 10-12 wires in total off a 96 pin plug, got a diagram somewhere.
Banger racers are doing lots of carbed Zetec RWD conversions now very succesfully and cheaply, no reason you can't do the same for a budget road conversion. I raced a few carbed mondeos with the above set up, once you sort the jetting out properly, they are very fast and smooth, you can't really tell they are "not standard".
