I remember seeing a white range rover convertible in a salvage yard in the early 80's, they'de managed to roll it over with 5 people onboard, it really wasn't a pretty sight

OMG!! Much want! The style, the colour, everything about that ticks all the 'want' boxes on MM's uber cool car list! Your next mission Robin, find me one for sale (actually, please don't because I couldn't afford one and it would break my heart to see one for sale that I couldn't own!) Nice find Dude....some rather interesting stuff going on there. That electric lifting boso headlight cover is amazing! Utterly pointless but all the cooler for it. I am completely convinced that the owners/designers of Rapport were taking some pretty heavy drug users. That's not a bad thing considering some of the bonkers stuff they have done to some pretty underwhelming cars!

Front headlight foil thing = all the orsums. Convertible thing mops up any orsums that remains. I also like the phrase "bullet-resistant" from the first page of the brochure. Actually bulletproof was clearly a challenge too far

Your next mission Robin, find me one for sale (actually, please don't because I couldn't afford one and it would break my heart to see one for sale that I couldn't own!) The green shooting brake one sold at auction for £9000 according to the wedsite it was on. I had a feeling that the wedges would be right up your street! Have some more photos.... Ohhhh fancy roof as well as lights!

[controversy alert] [/controversy alert] (Don't worry, it's not the Forte, but one of the unused shells left over from the project crudely fixed on to a chassis and engine from something totally different) Chris Humberstone is a designer that doesn't really get the respect he deserves. The stuff he did for Rapport is probably the most stylistically successful of his work, but it's worth remembering his entirely homebuilt Vitesse-based Scorpion Sovereign that was (indirectly) the inspiration for the 2-litre Bond Equipe. He also designed a nose section for the Broadspeed Mini GT that was ready for production just as Broadspeed went out of business... Humberstone set up shop on his own and sold them as the Scorpion Mini. Apparently he flogged hundreds to Spain. With the standard Mini body it looks a little ill-proportioned but imagine it with the fastback Broadspeed GT body and it makes a lot of sense. If/when I win the euromillions I'm building a replica Broadspeed/Scorpion...

So glad you guys have finally discovered the Rapport stuff: here's some more. You might wants to look up the myriad Range Rover conversions of the 80's, like the ones by Wood & Pickett: Vantagefield: Glenfrome: And many, many, many more. Another (sadly neglected) Rapport RR; yes that is a Granada MkII front end:

Wow. Just... wow. This thread has turned into a gold mine of '70s weirdness and coolness. The brown wedge convertible thing is hot, pretty much perfect. But the Range Rovers are just amazing. Vantagefield: This coud easily be recreated with a Range Rover, some W123 panels and your nan's sofas. Another (sadly neglected) Rapport RR; yes that is a Granada MkII front end: Presumably someone at Metrocab saw that and was taking notes?

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Why am I posting a pic of a seemingly normal 4-door Range Rover? Because this isn't a factory more-door. A lot of the companies mentioned (like the Monterverdi above) made their daily living doing 4-door conversions of the RR. Although Rover built a prototype 4-door back in 1972, they didn't have the resources to productionise it (they eventually bought it out in 1981), leaving the market wide open for the coachbuilders.

What a great thread. I remember looking at my dad's Acclaim, wondering if we could work out a way to Ritz it!! Love the brown convertible. Looks a lot like a Bitter.
