I know the word 'rare' gets used a lot, but I do think in this case it's very well warranted.
When I collected these wheels yesterday after paying the import duty/customs charges, within about an hour of unpacking them I was sent a message by Retro Cars magazine because they had got wind that I had a set. "Bruce, are these in the UK? Mint set were nicked off a mate years ago and disappeared"
The fact that within an hour of getting them I was being asked if they were from the UK speaks volumes about a set that went missing years ago*. Please try and find info of another set that's been sold?
Anyway, with the rarity side of things covered, some more details about the wheels.
These are freshly imported Trans Am Turbo rims that were fitted to the special edition Pace cars and Indy car versions.
15x8" ET0 (4.5" backspacing) 5 x Trans Am which equates to 5x120.7 (5x4.75" in old money)
The condition of the wheels is excellent. Some very minor marks on the rim edges (and I do mean minor) and the faces themselves are in very good order with all the factory diamond cut finish still intact.
I will get some good close-up photos of each wheel tomorrow (lots of photos) so you can see the condition for yourself. I'd happily use them 'as they are' on one of my cars, and if you know my standards then you'll know that means they are good. Once I get the photos you'll be able to see for yourself.
These were sourced from the States via eBay and send airfreight as a personal import. You'll not find another set of these in the country for sale in any hurry and to import a set yourself, you'll be looking at anywhere between £600 and £1,000 depending on how much you spend on them in the States initially.
If you want to be the only person rocking a set of these for some time,£600 now £500 and their yours.
The wheels are located in Bristol and collection would be preferred so you can see them for yourself, but if you wanted them sent by courier, I am also happy to do this for £30. There is also the option of the RR Pony Express if someone happens to be going your way from Bristol?
As I said, more detailed photos to come but if you have any questions in the meantime, please ask away. I'll be advertising them on Wheel Sanctuary very soon, so if you would like them you'd better put your hand up soon.
Many thanks for looking and don't forget to check back in for the detailed photos tomorrow evening.
* Just to clarify, Retro Cars didn't suspect me of stealing the wheels and just wanted to establish where I had bought them. I showed them details of the import paperwork and they are 100% happy that these wheels are legit & above board and not the ones stolen from their friend.
