as per title. ive just purchased a mk4 golf gti turbo for my daily runner, suprised at how well they go and drive. thing is are they worthy of this site, I'm guessing now but but id like some pics to make my mind up. some insperation.

no they are not. they are not retro and this is a site for retro cars.
there are more and more non-retro cars being posted on here lately and there are plenty of other forums for those cars. what is the point of having a forum for retro cars if it has all types of newer cars on it.
i currently have a fairly new car so i wont post it on here, however i post it on other forums like the model-specific forum for that car, and my local car forum. why cant other people do that?

I think people look at retro in different ways. To me, retro is an old motor, usually pre 1990 (this will obviously change as time goes by) To some people, retro is a "look" which can be applied to car regardless of age. I'm definately in the pre 1990 camp when it comes to what a retro car is. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate new stuff. As for your mk4, I wouldn't go on a "scenester" site like Edition 38 which is full of "individual" slammed mk4 golfs with stretched tyres and stickerbombed back windows (and optional rusty bonnet) If you want it to be really individual, go your own way with it. They're good motors, if a bit bland. If I was going to spend money on it, I'd make it go faster  |

ok i only asked an opinion of the car that ive bought, i know retro isnt a modern car and the 74 firenza i own is. was just looking for insperation to give it a bit of a retro look. sorry if i upset the apple cart with this but each to their own. i am on other forums and to be honest this one has a great crowd of people on it. helpful friendly and often give good advice. other sites seem snooty as to what car they drive. this site seems to offer opinions on whatever you drive, regardless of age etc etc.
so a big sorry to those who find it offending to own a newish car.
in future ill update on the vauxhall firenza,s progress.

Pallet30 you post what you want mate if a minority feel they are the authority on what fits and what doesn't they they can just move on.
Personally I want to see what you have done and will be doing with your motor what ever it is....

Personally I don't mind what age the cars that gets posted on here are as long as they are interesting and modified. If the thread title says mk4 golf and you don't like them then you can choose to ignore it. A lot of folk on here have modern daily drivers and like to see inspiration so I wouldn't worry about it Pallet. In fact if you do want to give your mk4 a retro look then I'm sure loads of us would be interested in seeing what you do with it. Besides they have been in production for 13 years which let's face it is quite a while so they're not new any more. Welcome to the forum dude, Firenza pics are good too by the way.  |

In the early days of the forum, when we were all finding our feet and the 'scene' was virtually non-existent, two phrases seemed to sum this place up: 1 - Everything has potential. 2 - Retro is an attitude, not an age. I'd like to think that is still true Black golf with red steels and wide whites works well. *n |

If this was going to change into a "100% original historic 30years+ only" car forum, I would leave. I´m fed up from those "purists" I witnessed on other forums.
I would like to see that golf mk4 before i judge it as boring or not RR-worthy.
And even then I might have an opinion but not the right to decide wheather it´s worthy or not.

I think we all prefer to see some Retro content, that back mk4 with white wall and peep mirrors is exactly the kind of thing that we like amd over time there have been some fantastic moderns with retro touches on here before. I'd love to see such a car take shape in a Readers Rides thread. I did go searching for a nice retro theme mk4 to prove my point but apologise because I got stuck on this little piece of genius:  Rob |

Personally I don't mind what age the cars that gets posted on here are as long as they are interesting and modified. If the thread title says mk4 golf and you don't like them then you can choose to ignore it. this. basically, if its a stock or semi stock blandmobile like 99% of other mk4s, don't bother. but if its modified in a tasteful or interesting way, then yeah, were interested. |

My feeling is that if someone's asking a question like the op then they already probably know that generally the answer will be no... but if the op was posting a picture of the black one a few posts up and asking is this worthy? Then the answer is clearly yes.
