ive started striping down my mk2 rocco to have a 20vt put in and found out its had a back end smash at some point and the repair job hasnt been great (should have seen when i got it but i was 18 and inexperienced... ) told a mate about this and hes offered me his mk1 golf shell for £300 needs a respray but is 100% solid. so do get the rocco dipped/blasted and see how bad it really is or do i get the mk1 shell and build that up? if i get the golf shell what do i do with the rocco? bin it and cry for a week? keep it to do it up at a later date?

the golf is a fair bit lighter, is it for track? as a golf it'd be worth alot more if you came to sell it too.

for me it would depend on how bad the repair was on the rocco. if its easily fixable I would be tempted to fix it up. but the golf would be worth more in the long run and if its 100% solid it means less work for you as well.
I suppose it all depends on how much you love the rocco.

Personally I think the fact you wouldn't even want to keep the Golf says it all, I wouldn't want to put a load of time and effort into a car only to sell it on again unless that time and effort was getting paid a decent amount per hour!
I'm not so convinced that golfs make a better track car, the Scirocco's much lower slung, and the lower centre of gravity's definitely an advantage, the shells also stiffer, and I've got a feeling there's more weight to shed from a Scirocco than a Golf. I expect mine will be getting a tarmac-rally/track makeover at some stage, I'll be interested to see how it fares against Golfs, I doubt there's much in it though.

Yer I have really lol Well the 20vt engine i have is running 200bhp atm so that will do for a striped out mk1 Sorry if this sounds mad but with the money from selling the golf I could get a mk1 tt 1.8 20vt Quattro and perform a transplant? The rocco does need a bit of back end work so why not?

You have a point, I do want a mk1 golf but I want my rocco and as I won't be using the car every day I can't justify having 2 "track " cars I also can't afford it lol
