Ok so this is take 2 at this. I made an ad a few weeks ago and took it down as I thought I could stretch to running two cars. But having the bike as well makes it impossible. Basically I've just started a new job so am needing something bigger and comfier for the commute. This is a cracking little car that's taken me all around Europe including trips to the Nurburgring and Spa. As well as loads inside the UK. It has been my daily driver since August '11 and has served me very well. I will genuinely be sad to see it go! I bought it as a rather tired standard S-Special Type-II. And have spent more than the purchase price getting it into this condition and spec. It is rare to find a nice type-II. Never mind a white one.
MOT: July '12
(Have had a pre MOT done and have been told it will fly through, just the TSI it will fail on so will swap them over if I can find some standard indicators if a buyer wants a years ticket!)
Tax: 31/8/12
History wise I have loads of receipts for work carried out since import. As well as some cracking paperwork from Japan that I have no idea what it reads!
Mechanical:
The engine has done 180k Kilometres and is still running sweet as a nut and easily has another 100k plus in it.... I've driven cars with 60k that aren't as mechanically sorted as this! The S-Special Type-II has a few notable differences that make this version a vastly different beast to a standard car. The 1.8 engine has a lighter flywheel, and produces 130bhp standard. This model benefits from an aftermarket air filter which, if at least, free's up some noise! The exhaust is a standard item mainly as it keeps the noise down for track day decibel tests) however I do have an MX5Parts item ready to go on which I could negotiate a deal on It also has a much shorter final drive ratio on the Torsen limited slip differential than the type-I. This means in gear acceleration is much better and the engine feels much more eager and alive. It doesn't feel a million miles away from my friends supercharged 1.8.
Chassis:
The car sits on BRAND NEW (under 40 miles!) Rota Zero Plus 15x8 alloys. It also has its OEM front strut brace, as well as thicker sway bars. The main thing that differentiates the driving experience from a standard UK/Import Mx5 is the addition of a Torsen Limited Slip Differential. This stops the inside wheel spinning up under load and means the car can slide fantastically well! Recently fitted have been brand new OEM spec Bilstein shocks, with standard springs. I do have a set of almost new Eibach lowering springs in the shed and can be negotiated in the price, otherwise they will go back to a friend. Underneath the car is in very good condition. It has been Polybushed all round. This transforms the road and track handling without sacrificing ride comfort. It is fitted with Toyo T1R tyres, which give fantastic performance in both dry and wet conditions on the road or the track. Braking is dealt with by carbon pads. And has by far the best braking performance I, or anyone who has ever driven the car, has ever experienced in an Mx5!
Interior:
Inside the car is in very good condition. I have fitted a mint small diameter MOMO leather wheel. I have a snap off boss that isnt fitted that could come with the car. It has a radio and CD player with electric aerial that works well (the only Mk1 ive seen with one working! lol) I have fitted a TRlane roll bar. These are great quality things (I've had a couple!). It also comes with a harness bar and a pair of black TRS harnesses. Other than that the inside is standard and in good condition.
Bodywork:
The body is in Chaste White. This is very rare in the UK for an S-Spec, never mind a type II. Most are the more common black or blue. I have had the front end repainted as was covered in stone chips, so is now mint. There is no rust at all on the arches, although there is a car park scuff on one. This will be rectified shortly. Apart from that for a 16 year old car it's very good! I have fitted a genuine Garage Vary front splitter. These are circa £170 delivered from Japan, and are arguably the most sort after MX5 aftermarket addition! I have also fitted a ducktail spoiler. This was bought off Nutz and is a top quality item! Also fitted are some matt black TSI's. Again these are much sought after and took a lot of forum trawling to find! The tow strap is a red TRS item. On the front I've fitted clear side repeaters and reflectors. And JDM red ones on the rear. It also has a black rear slam panel from a black S-Spec. The roof is pretty much water tight. Although is starting to frey along the edges. And will really only last another winter.
Bad Points:
Not much, the roof as mentioned, the speedo makes a whirring sound for about 30 seconds when you first set off... then goes away. I think the mechanical mph converter needs lubricated. Has never bother me as I always have the radio on and it goes away by the end of my street but best to mention it. The bodywork isn't show condition but it is a 16 year old car so to be expected. It's certainly more than presentable but again, I prefer to be honest.
Price:
Right.... the tricky bit. This car owes me a lot of money. The extras on the car are all top quality bits, and therefore are worth quite a bit of money. I'm selling the car complete. I'm not splitting..... and if I do the bits will probably goto mates. So no requests for parts please!
I will advertise it at £2495 ONO. I will also consider deals for it without certain parts. There are cheaper out there but this is a very competent daily driver that it just happens to be able to be one of the most fun track cars you'll find sub 5 grand! I'd like it to goto an enthusiast, and I'd consider a part ex. Car is located in Edinburgh. Looking for a quick sale so offers welcome.
Give me a PM, or text 07808761286 if interested.
Any questions fire away!
