1970’s Barford Bison, 4wd, 2T Dumper truck. Good general order ideal for self build, farm truck or just dickin about in. £850 ONO.
Story to tell a significant other:
This is a mid 70’s (there fore uber-retro) Barford Bison just like the Toy Corgi dumper truck. It is rumoured to have been owned by Queenie who used to be into dumper truck racing in a big way as it was one of the cheapest forms of motor sport around. This truck was used until the mid nineties when a string of bad pit stops fumbled by Phil the Greek meant a winning streak turned into losing the nationals.
She was sorely affected by the season and famously commented that it was a horrible year, the press speculated that she was talking about other events but I can’t see it. At this point she pulled out and retired the dumper to more menial functions since then it served on light duties until I picked it up last year and after detuning the race engine and swapped from slicks to more useful tyres I have used it on a garage build and no longer need it / can handle being asked “If that was once owned by Queenie??”
Due to the severity of ‘that’ season she will deny all ownership but she was often found practising up and down the long walk with her then corgis in the bucket hence the Childs model being produced.
Slightly more factual Story:
Mid 70’s Barford Bison; 4wd, 2T, Hydraulic Tip dumper truck.
Used on a private estate for any thing you can use a dumper truck for. By the general wear and tear evident its had an easy life. At the end of its life on the estate early last year it was freshened up as a father son project which involved a partial strip, clean , re-grease change of fluids and a good tidy up.
The motor is a Lister PH2 which starts when you have the knack 1st time and runs on diesel fumes.
The Hydraulics are good and can easily tip a full bucket of concrete.
Its 3 speed and reverse all gears select easily and can be selected from stand still.
The foot brake works well on all 4 wheels and the trans brake will hold on inclines.
The tyres are well worn with varying levels of tread and major cracking of the side walls. I was worried at first about this but they hold air and have dealt with 6 months of abuse with no issues.
The bucket is in very good shape and has 2 drains 1” from the base so plug them to hold liquids or unplug and it will always be empty.
Weight should be around 1.1T from the factory and after towing this I would say that’s probably about right.
Dimensions are on the jpeg, it fitted on a car transporter and was towed with ease behind an A6.
If close I could arrange delivery for diesel costs
