Hi all,
Hidden away at the back of our yard is a 1968 Vauxhall Ventora, it is terminaly rusty so needs alot of work to repair it. I was just wondering if it was a rare car, seeing as it's mainly victor's that are about now?
Any thoughts?

very very rare. I can't remember the last one I saw for sale or at a show.
I've had two of these and they have definite appeal!
If its rotten then the cost of restoration will quickly outstrip its value but it is worth saving, IMO, unless it is utterly curse word. Although the last couple of FDs I saw sell made very strong money.
I would obviously not condone someone buying this and a Victor 1600 and swapping the running gear and ID over... But its very easily done.
I still know "club people" so even if its a breaker we could find it a home but you'd probably get your best price for it on eBay.

"How many left" is a funny thing, I have as yet to find an accurate number associated to specific cars, one example I can think of, a very good fried of mine has a 1940s 2 door Austin Dorset, these are very much in demand with HotRodders, Last time I looked, the owners club had 4 cars known, (they wont accept modified cars) that was the official number of cars known to exist, I know of 8 hotrodded Dorsets, may be more, Just goes to show

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

It all depends on how its described on the V5, often 2 identical cars don't have exactly the same description so don't show up together

I'll take some better pictures later this week, it's difficult to get at to photograph cos of all the junk surronding it. The roof, floors pans, and boot floor are finished, the chassis rails are tracing paper thin, the rear axle fell off a few years ago when it was last moved, and at the same time we cut the front cradle off out of sympathy. I know it is too far gone to repair, but all is not lost though, it may get some new life with the help of some german metal.... Pics:

jesus that is bad.
Back axle and front clip are worth preserving - serious upgrades for basic Victor. When I did my Chevy V8 one I used Ventora back axle and front spindles/brakes/etc.
If I thought I might turn another 1600 up as a V8 project I'd have 'em off you ;-)

I'm told the car was stored in a container for 10 years, but the roof of said container was leaking. When they pulled the car out it looked like this. The bonnet is still here, and we have got the engine too. But if I do end up repairing this I wont be putting the original 3.3 back in.

stuff can be reconditioned. If you are pitching it out seriously, I'd take it off your hands. Rear axle in particular. But up front the lower wishbones, uprights, calipers, discs, etc.
The 3.3 engine is rubbish anyway. Silky smooth when running well but the 2.3 slant 4 makes the car just as quick and less thirsty.
Is it a manual? Overdrive? Possibly some value in the gearbox as they can work well behind a tuned 2.3 slant 4 y' see.

Well, due to the shockingly rotten state off the thing, repairing what's there is not an option. So since I've got a striped merc 190e in the yard, I'm giving serious thought to blending the 2 together.

Theres a 1600 Victor on eBay right now. If I had money I'd have your remaining mechanical bits, that rolling shell and drop in a V8 and recreate the car I never should have sold....

You shouldn't have said that, its giving me ideas (usually a bad thing ;D), I take it you mean this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1969-vauxhall-victor-fd-4-door-rolling-shell-project-hotrod-custom-/270970430815RV8 or SBC sir? Obviously auto and keeping the column shift and bench... Theres a nice one on there as well: Which to my mind looks just about right and a good example of when a vinyl roof really works, although jelly bean mags would look better to me

The white one. I "know" the car, it being sort of local to me. £450 is beyond my current means. My old one had a high compression '71 SBC 350 in it, Holley, stainless tube custom headers, Comp 284 cam, Rhodes lifters, B&M shifter on a TH350, kept the bench seat, etc. Sleeper...
